Since Russia's initial invasion of Ukraine, we've seen a number of celebrities come forward and express their sympathies for and alignment with Ukraine, many even partaking in initiatives to raise awareness or money for the country's cause.
Among those celebrities are Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, who bring a huge update to their already massive $30 million fundraising goal.
It began earlier this month with a goal of $30 million, of which they vowed to match $3 million in donations. They wanted to direct these donations to organizations that would secure housing and supplies to fleeing Ukrainians, so they opted to split this money between Airbrb.org and Flexport.org.
The fundraiser was in the form of a GoFundMe.
They were already halfway to meeting their goal.
In an update, they spoke to both founders of both Airbnb and Flexport to continue raising awareness for their campaign and bringing light to what these organizations are doing to help Ukraine.
They had plenty of confidence they were going to meet their goal
As of writing, the GoFundMe is sitting at $34 million, having well surpassed their goal, with over 65,000 people having donated. That's an average $523 donation per person!
In an update video, Kutcher said he and Kunis will "treat every dollar as if it's being donated out of our pocket — with respect and honor for the work that went into earning it, with the intent of love through which it was given, and the desire for it to be maximized for a positive outcome for others."
"We're going to do everything we can to ensure the outpouring of love that came from you all as a part of this campaign finds a maximum impact for those in need."
And though their goal was met, Ukrainian-born Kunis encourages their audience to keep donating to similar causes, "Please don't stop [...] This is just the beginning to a very, very, very long journey."
The work they've done is nothing short of inspiring, and will certainly help many Ukrainians who are facing unimaginable hardship.
"We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the support," said Kunis in the video, "And while this is far from a solve of the problem, our collective effort will provide a softer landing for so many people as they forge ahead into their future of uncertainty."
