As gas prices continue to go up, pretty much everyone is feeling it in every industry, from higher ups noticing an increase in shipping prices, to the regular employee's increased cost to get to and from work every day. While this struggle is shared, it's not shared equally, and as one Reddit user shared in an email, there are some companies out there that are looking to take advantage of the way this struggle is hitting employees the hardest.
Applebee's Under Fire After Alleged Email Saying High Gas Prices Are 'Good For Hiring'

Recently, an email from a District Operator at Applebee's was allegedly sent out with the subject line "why gas increase is good for hiring," and shared on Reddit.

"Everyone has heard that gas prices continue to rise. The advantage this has for us is that it will increase application flow and has the potential to lower our average wage," the email reads. "How you ask?"

"Most of our employee base and potential employee base live paycheck to paycheck," the email went on.

"Any increase in gas price cuts into their disposable income. As inflation continues to climb and gas prices continue to go up, that means more hours employees will need to work to maintain their current level of living," the email goes on, adding that this will "force people back into the work force."

"Besides hiring employees in at a lower wage to decrease our labor (when able) make sure you have a pulse on the morale of your employees. Your employees that live check to check are more impacted than the people reading this email. Be conscious of that. Many will need to work more hours or get a second job. Do things to make sure you are the employer of choice," the email continues. "Get schedules completed early so that they can plan their other jobs around yours."
The people in the comments were not happy.

"Applebee's hasn't had my business for years and I'm now definitely going to continue that trend," writes one Reddit user.
"The absolute disregard for humanity and eyes only for profitability in that email actually make me sick to my stomach," added another.
