It seems like all anyone can talk about these days is the new Top Gun film, Top Gun: Maverick, starring Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer, Jennifer Connelly, and Miles Teller.
To be fair, fans of the original film have been waiting a long time for this sequel, and by all accounts, it's a massive success. However, Leah Remini is urging fans to remember Tom Cruise's involvement in Scientology — the controversial church she famously left nearly a decade ago in 2013.
Rarely is a sequel ever praised as much as this follow-up film has been, and after making a whopping $100 million during its opening weekend, it's clear fans can't get enough.
As fans of Leah know, the actress left the notorious church in 2013 and has been outspoken about her experience ever since.
The church has denied many of her claims, including that Leah was only allowed to meet Tom after donating $1 million to the International Association of Scientology.
“The mere fact that I was fit to be in Tom’s presence was a huge compliment. The actor wasn’t just an A-list movie star but a pillar of the church.”
"There is a public persona of the guy who looks at you directly in the eye and shakes your hand and hugs you and is an attentive person to you and there's the person behind the mask who is a completely different person," Leah explained at the time.
"Glad all you Top Gun fans are enjoying the new movie," Claire wrote in the emotional Facebook post.
"So no, I will not watch the movie, nor will I ever support or approve of this scam of a man," the former Scientologist wrote. "Trust me, Tom Cruise knows exactly who he is supporting and the abuses the organization perpetuates."
Marc Headley, who worked closely with Tom Cruise within the organization, wrote his own exposé on Scientology, titled “Blown for Good.”
"... Tom Cruise knows exactly what goes on in Scientology," the King of Queens star wrote. "Don't let the movie star charm fool you."
