You only turn 104 once (if you're even lucky enough to make it that far), so why not do something extra special for the occasion? For Kevin Mills, the best gift he could think of for his centenarian father was the gift of social media well-wishes.

So, Mills took to Twitter to ask the world to send 104 wishes to his father in time for his birthday.

"This is my dad, Gerald. He turns 104 on 12 July. Any chance I can muster 104 happy birthdays from Twitter?"

"He'll be amazed and baffled in equal measure."

Mills posted the Tweet on July 4th, and it's already received tons of love.

With over 66,000 replies, it's safe to say Gerald got his 104 birthday wishes.

And then some, I'd say. Hundreds of thousands of people liked the tweet as well, and a few thousand added to the birthday wishes through quote tweets.

People of all ages sent their well-wishes.

One Twitter user shared a picture of his newborn daughter, whom he hopes will make it to 104 too (I guess well see 104 years from now if that wish came true).

Other Twitter users shared the relatives they have who've reached the 100 club.

People from all walks of life took time to celebrate Gerald's birthday, and some even shared that they had parents and grandparents celebrating 100+ years of life this year.

And of course, some brought their pets into the celebrati0ns.

Because you can't wish someone a happy birthday and not share a pic of your pets for the occasion. It's, like, one of the unwritten rules of the internet, after all.

People from all around the world joined in on the fun.

Mills and his father are in the U.K., but people from all over Europe, Africa, Australia, and North America took the time to give Gerald an international birthday celebration.

Many were also quick to remind us that age is just a number.

Here's hoping that Gerald feels 40 this year, even if his actual age is more than double that. But it's no problem, because age really is just a number.

So many people wished Gerald a happy birthday, the tweet kind of went viral.

And by "kind of," I mean it was totally the center of attention. Even in the US, where Fourth of July celebrations were in full swing.

It even got celebrity attention.

You know you've made it big when the likes of Mark Hamill and Henry Winkler are taking a bit of time out of their day to wish you a happy birthday. For many, this would be a dream come true!

But I guess the world loves to bring a little joy from time to time.

Because really, is there anything more wholesome than hundreds of thousands of internet strangers banding together to spread a little cheer for one person? I think not!
