Men, have you ever considered a vasectomy? If so, did you go through with it (and throw a party afterwards)? It can be a scary thing to contemplate, but recent events should have more men considering this method of birth control.

A TikToker has gone viral for discussing his experience after undergoing a vasectomy procedure. It's a fantastic resource for any men who are considering getting a vasectomy, but feeling squeamish or uninformed.

This is Keith Laue.

Keith has a ton of followers on both Instagram and TikTok, so it shouldn't be too surprising that his video went viral.

In it, he explains just what it means for men to get their tubes tied, eliminating the risk of pregnancy.

What is a vasectomy, exactly?

A lot of men probably don't want to even begin to contemplate any snipping of their nether regions. But it really isn't so bad. It consists of a small incision to get into the scrotum, then the vas deferens and snipped and sealed, and then everything's sewn back up.

Sure, it doesn't sound pleasant, but it's straightforward — and you'll be under local anesthetic during the procedure anyway. For what it's worth, the Mayo Clinic says vasectomies are almost 100% effective.

Keith shared his personal experience.

Things started with a phone consultation to help him better understand the procedure. When he arrived at the clinic, he was given Valium to help smooth him out, and then was given local anesthesia for the procedure itself. All in, it didn't last more than 15 minutes.

After the procedure, it's time to rest.

Keith says that things were tender for a few days, but he basically spent the time icing the affected region and not moving around too much. With the help of some ibuprofen, he was back on his feet after just three days.

It feels more important now than ever.

So much of the burden of birth control falls on women: birth control pills, intrauterine devices, and abortion.

Now that the U.S. Supreme Court has reversed 50 years of precedent and overturned Roe v. Wade, women in the United States no longer have the guaranteed right to a safe abortion. This should be a wake-up call, not only for the erosion of our personal liberties, but also for the importance of safe methods of birth control.

These procedures usually don't go so smoothly for women.

As mentioned, there are a few methods of birth control that are available for women. But the process is much different, from the sounds of things. Notably, Keith's experience of being given Valium and not receiving a psych evaluation aren't always the same for women.

It definitely isn't equitable.

While it's downright infuriating that there's such a double standard in the medical community when it comes to birth control, it's still meaningful that men are able to get a procedure done. Keith's levelheaded explanation of the vasectomy procedure should help convince at least a few men that it isn't all that bad.

Guys, would you ever get a vasectomy?

Obviously, if you plan to have kids this won't be in the cards. But what if you don't plan to have kids, or you've already had all the kids you want? Would you consider getting the snip?
