Plenty of workers, especially those living in and around star-studded areas of California, have stories of celebrities walking into their stores. Those times can make for cool stories on their own, but what if you got to do even more?

After he visited a fruit stand, actor William Shatner left his wallet behind, leading the shop's owners to track down how to contact him and return his belonging.

Some fruit stand employees were in for quite the surprise.

The Fruit Barn Pacheco Pass Highway in Gilroy, California had a very special guess earlier this summer when Star Trek actor William Shatner came by to pick up some produce.

However, when he left, they noticed something left behind.

One employee noticed a wallet left in their corn bin.

Lo and behold, the wallet belonged to none other than the Hollywood star who'd stopped by earlier.

The shop owner, Gary Tognetti, told The Washington Post that he recalled thinking, "You've got to be kidding me."

Unsure of what to do next, he contacted a friend.

Officer Mark Tarasco with the Gilroy Police Department was who he thought to call, hoping someone would know how to get ahold of a celebrity.

"I told him, 'Hey, we found this wallet,' and he wasn't quite sure if I was telling a little joke," Tognetti told KABC-TV.

Tarasco was happy to help.

He said he got in contact with Sgt. John Ballard, who had some detective experience, and asked, "Hey, how do I get a hold of a celebrity?"

"It was a race to try to figure out who was gonna contact Mr. Shatner first."

In the end, it took less than two hours to get ahold of Shatner.

Once everything was confirmed, they had the wallet shipped via FedEx on Thursday. It arrived safely at Shatner's home on Friday.

And he was so grateful!

He shared the tweet seen above, shouting out both the stand, stand owners, and the Gilroy PD members who helped him get his wallet back.

Those involved consider it a cool, fun story they get to keep.

"When you get to talk about something and laugh about it, and pass on the experience to other people – to include my family, my parents, big fans and all that – it's cool," Officer Tarasco said.

Tognetti is hoping he can find a way to memorialize what happened at his shop, saying, "I thought about putting a sign up, 'William Shatner was here.'"
