Fans of the Bridgerton TV show know that appearing in period costumes must be quite a challenge for the female cast. I mean, all those tight corsets can't be that comfortable to wear, huh? Oh, my goodness, ha, ha! I don't know if I could pull it off.

But as you will soon find out, there is another downside to wearing a regency dress. And one of the show's stars shows us exactly why. Let's check it out.

Aren't you glad that women can wear trousers now?

What if you had to go back in time and wear all those tightly trussed-up corsets and cumbersome ballgowns that you see on the show Bridgerton? Um, I don't think so. As much as I love how those dresses look, wearing them would be quite another thing, ha, ha.

So, I truly feel for the female cast.

Actress Adjoa Andoh, who plays the formidable Lady Danbury, has previously spoken about the challenges of wearing the Regency-era corsets. It definitely gives you a better “sense” of what it felt like to be a woman in the 19th century. Aha!

But another actress also experienced some challenges.

I'm talking about Derry Girls' Nicola Coughlan, who portrays Penelope Featherington, aka the true Lady Whistledown. She recently shared a candid behind-the-scenes glimpse of life on the Bridgerton set and revealed one of the more obscure downsides to the outfitting of the era.

It's what she calls the “Bridgertan.”

What's that? It's basically a particular sunburn you get while wearing a regency dress. Yikes! And it doesn't look pretty at all. So, ladies, don't try this at home no matter how pretty you think the 19th-century dresses might make you look.

Who can relate?

If you've ever worn a top with some weird straps while out in the sun and later found the odd tan lines, you can relate to this, huh? It's happened to me on occasion. I'm not going to lie.

Well, those are just some small perils of doing a period show.

Am I right? But that didn't seem to dampen Coughlan's spirits. In fact, she's very excited for the upcoming Bridgerton season. She recently spilled some secrets about the plot and the direction her character will take on the show.

Here's the secret she's been keeping since Season 2.

Apparently, this new season will focus on Colin and Penelope's love story. Yipee! Her character will go through some changes, too. Coughlan hinted that Penelope will finally become a woman. Oh, wow!

And, get this:

She's also undergone quite the glow-up for the occasion. Nice! I bet all the fans of the show can't wait for that. I admit I haven't gotten into this TV show yet, but now that I've read more about it, I'm totally intrigued.

Have you ever experienced an unexpected wardrobe malfunction of sorts?

As I mentioned before, I, too, have gotten a not-so-flattering tan before. It was both funny and tragic, haha. But eventually, the tan faded, and things went back to normal.

However, I can sympathize with the ladies on this show. It must be a challenge to not only fit into those clothes but deal with all the surprises that come with them.
