A heartbreaking story coming out of New Orleans today as the city mourns the loss of Jermani Thompson. The 26-year-old baggage handler was unloading baggage from a Frontier Airlines plane at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport when the accident happened Tuesday night.

Jermani Thompson, 26, was an employee of GAT Airline Ground Support.

On Tuesday night at around 10 PM local time, the young woman's hair got tangled in the machinery of a belt loader.

Jermani was soon rushed to the hospital where she died, as reported by NBC News.

"We are heartbroken and are supporting her family and her friends as best as we are able. Please send your well wishes to everyone at our New Orleans station during this very difficult time," the CEO of GAT Airline Ground Support said.

Jermani's mother, Angela Dorsey, said her daughter loved basketball and was a graduate of Tougaloo College in Jackson, Mississippi.

Speaking with New Orleans news website NOLA, the heartbroken mother said: "She was my baby girl. Everybody loved her."

"I'm just lost for words. I can't even think."

Our thoughts are with all of Jermani's loved ones during this heartbreaking time.
