Son Of The Man Who Killed Jeffrey Dahmer Opens Up About The Murder

The son of the man who murdered Jeffrey Dahmer has spoken out.

One of the reasons that true crime media grips us as a society is that we can only imagine what the impact being involved in one of these major stories would have on the people involved, especially the innocent bystanders and family members. One of the family members involved in the Jeffrey Dahmer story spoke to CNN in 2014, and there's been a renewed interest in the interview following the Netflix series about Dahmer.

Jeffrey Dahmer is one of the most infamous serial killers of all time.

Dahmer was convicted of the murder of seventeen victims between 1978 and 1991, and is the subject of a much-talked about new Netflix series Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, where he is played by actor Evan Peters.

Dahmer was sentenced to 16 life sentences, however, he was killed by fellow inmate Christopher Scarver in 1994.

Scarver's son, also named Chris Scarver, spoke to CNN about the killing.

“I was about 10, and I saw it on TV. And that’s how I found out," Chris said of learning that his dad had been the one to kill Jeffrey Dahmer. A big picture of him popped up, and I was just shocked at that point.” 

“When I was young, I didn’t know what it meant, obviously," he said of his understand of who Jeffrey Dahmer was.

"But that name has been around me for my whole life."

When the reporter asked if it could have been a set up by guards in the prison due to the fact that his father should not have been left alone with Dahmer or the other inmate killed at the same time, Chris replied, “I think about that all the time. It makes me wonder if he even did it.” 

Chris explained that despite all of this, he credits his father with helping him during a tough time.

“I was actually starting to go down the wrong road, and that’s why I wrote [to] him,” Chris revealed. “And I just told him everything I was going through, and how I felt about me and his relationship – all these built up years, all that pain that I had, I finally just let it go and just talked to him.” 

The advice his father gave him? “Tough times don’t last. Tough people do. And you are the toughest kid I know.”
