Katie Couric is an American TV legend, acting as the face of mainstream news for decades on televisions across the nation. She's still a powerful media mogul who's work knows no bounds.

In a shocking announcement in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Couric shared that she was diagnosed with c earlier this year, followed by all that came next.

Television icon Katie Couric has breast cancer.

She posted the announcement to her website and then to her social media pages, revealing that she had been diagnosed back in June.

She found out she had cancer due to a routine mammogram she had earlier this year where her doctor did an extra biopsy after finding something abnormal.

Of course, the news was devastating.

She lost her first husband, Jay Monahan, to colon cancer back in 1998, her sister to pancreatic cancer, and her mother-in-law to ovarian cancer. Other members of her family had also survived various forms of cancer, meaning it's been in her life very often.

"My mood quickly shifted from disbelief to resignation. Given my family’s history of cancer, why would I be spared? My reaction went from “Why me?” to “Why not me?”

However, her doctor assured her she'd be fine.

The tumor she found was very treatable, especially since it was caught early.

She ended up having a lumpectomy in July where the olive-sized tumor was removed. "And I’d later learn my Oncotype — which measures the likelihood of your cancer returning — was 19, considered low enough to forgo chemotherapy." She's totally in the clear now.

Her latest post is in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

It reads, "Every two minutes, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States. On June 21st, I became one of them. As we approach #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth I wanted to share my personal story with you all and encourage you to get screened and understand that you may fall into a category of women who needs more than a mammogram."

We wish her nothing but good health going forward!
