So Apparently, Danish Babies Sleep Outside All Year-Round

All parents know that there is nothing we are more protective of than our children. We are always watching them and ensuring that nothing happens to them. We never want to keep our eyes off of them because, in this world, you never know what can happen. Whenever we go out and about with our little ones, we keep the strollers very close by because—well, they are our everything.

Living in big cities, it's not every day that we just leave our strollers and walk away.

In fact, when you live somewhere like New York City or even Los Angeles, leaving your stroller is the last thing you would think to do.

For one, we don't want our strollers to get stolen.

Anyone who has a baby knows that the stroller happens to be one of the most expensive things. We even throw it on the registry for the baby shower hoping a rich relative will pay for it.

We also don't want to leave our kids unattended.

With all the crazy people out there, we can never trust that someone would be perfectly safe and kind to our little ones. Could you imagine just leaving them in the stroller and walking away? I could never picture it.

Turns out, in some Danish and Scandinavian countries, this is the norm.

A recent TikTok video posted by @annieineventyrland showcased that if you travel across the world, everything can change—literally. In the video, Annie showcases several clips of strollers just all alone.

In these countries, having your baby just sleep outside while you go on with your day is the "norm."

"The Danish practice of having your baby sleep outside in their stroller is not only the cultural norm, but it's even recommended by your midwives and baby nurses," she shared in her video.

Apparently, it's pretty good for the baby to be out in the sunshine and fresh air.

"Fresh air is said to keep babies healthy and help them sleep better and napping your baby in their stroller outside is done in all sorts of weather."

It's far different than other countries across the world, for sure.

But, there's a reason for that, too.

"Babies here don't get kidnapped because no one wants the responsibility of someone else's kid, especially when our healthcare system does everything they can to help everyone who wants a baby to have their own at little to no cost," she said.

People on TikTok said it's pretty normal in Finland, too.

"Same in Finland and probably all Scandinavian countries. It was even common before. My mom and other moms used to leave babies at the entrance hall (?) of Stockmann, big department store, when they went shopping in the 70s. If a baby was crying someone would shake the pram," one person commented.

Other people online were floored to see this.

The majority of people who commented, from the United States, shared that it is something they could "never do" and can't even picture in their head. Some said they wouldn't even leave their stroller alone for more than a moment.

One person brought up the culture of America v. these countries.

Some people pointed out that some parents cannot even trust sending their kids to school in America in the wake of gun violence, let alone leave their child alone in a stroller outside.

And, many joked that they cannot trust anyone with anything.

Others online joked around that while Danish individuals are out here leaving their whole child outside alone, they cannot even leave an Amazon package outside their home for too long.
