I Totally Get Why Women Hate These Things About Womanhood

Being a woman is pretty difficult. A lot of people might think it's easy, after all, we have equal rights now (for the most part), but the truth is that couldn't be further from the truth.

However, the truth of the matter is that women have it pretty damn hard. We make far less money, are respected far less, and are treated as though we are weak—especially when compared to men.

Having periods every month.

Many women agree that having to bleed for a week every month is just not it for anyone. On top of it, some women suffer from irregular or painful periods, which makes it far worse to go through.

Not feeling safe when you walk alone.

"I don’t feel safe walking alone at night. In my city’s subreddit a bunch of people were blaming a woman for getting attacked saying 'well why was she out alone after dark?' Meanwhile in the winter sunset is at like 4 pm. Like cool," shared serpentssss.

The assumption we just want to get married and have kids.

Carolinablue87 shared that so many people think that the only thing women want in life is a husband and children. It is, in fact, not the case for many women. While it's perfectly okay for some women to want that, many are perfectly happy staying single and childless.

Not being heard.

N7twitch said that it's annoying and aggravating when she is not heard by her male colleagues at work. There is no reason why a woman's opinions should be pushed aside when they are just as good as a man's opinion.

The list goes on and on.

"My body doesn't truly belong to me. Doctors decide if our pain is real. Legislature decides if we're ready to be mothers. Strangers verbally disclose their opinions of our bodies as if it's relevant to our daily activities. Strangers are also more likely to leave us alone if we're wearing a ring or if we exist around a man or a group of at least two other women," shared Wolfy_Woman.

Inconsistent clothing sizes.

For some strange and unknown reason, women's clothing sizes are never universal. A size six in one brand is not the same as a size six in another. So often we cannot even determine what our size is because it's so hard to figure out.

Pressure to look a specific way.

DiamondBlackSwan70 shared said that the beauty standards that society has placed on women are both ridiculous, and quite frankly unattainable. Not to mention, not very good on people's mental health.

Assuming that we want to date anyone we are nice to.

"The assumption that if I’m nice to you (and you’re a man) I want to date you. Then you get mad when I say I’m not interested and don’t even bother being friends. It’s all we ever were pal," xxKateLBxx.

Always having to be "calm."

mesopotamian_whore pointed out that in society, many believe women are not allowed to get angry or upset with things. We are always meant to keep our cool because if we show any sign of emotion, people will immediately not trust us.

Always having to be "on guard."

"Always having to look over your shoulder in public, being cautious while letting a maintenance worker in your apartment, generally always having to be on guard from a possible assault," shared Ilovethe90sforreal.

Losing sex appeal with age.

"How it seems you lose sex appeal when you get older or have kids cause there are younger fresher childless women that are more desirable than you. I feel like men are allowed to age and still desired by women when they're 30 or 40 etc.," shared throwawayciaociao.

Not being taken seriously by doctors.

notanotherkrazychik shared a story that proves doctors never take a woman's pain seriously. They always chalk it up to being "sensitive" or that their issues are not serious. In the end, women are the ones who suffer.

Being defenseless without a weapon.

Familiar-Let-5035 pointed out that because many women are much physically weaker than a man, we are pretty useless and defenseless unless we have a weapon on us at all times. It's a scary world out there.

Having to fill "female roles."

"I am an attorney and oftentimes the only woman on a case team. When we are all working late together in a conference room, I hate the assumption that I'm going to order dinner, and when it arrives that I'm going to manage to distribute the food, drinks, silverware, and napkins. Not your mom," said alittlebrownbird.

"Being divorced and 56, in a committed but still relatively new (4yrs) relationship, I hate the double standard for appearance in my age group. Women are expected to knock themselves out trying to stay in shape and look young, while the men generally look like wrinkled, hairless, or nearly so, trolls enduring the sixth month (the bellies!) of a rough pregnancy," said RoseBobtail.
