Single Mom Surprises Son In Sweetest Way On 'Donuts With Dad' Day At His School

Many times in school events, there are specific days dedicated to parents. For example, when Father's Day rolls around, or Mother's Day, schools like to honor both mothers and fathers in a child's life. This can be a wonderful experience for some students, however, not all students have their parents in their lives.

The single mother noticed this, and instead of allowing her son to feel singled out, not included, or even sad, she decided to take on the role she always has—as both his mother and his father.

One Reddit user pointed out that there may be other men in the boy's life who are positive role models and who could have gone in place of his father—rather than the mother dressing up as a male role model for him to attend the event.

Another single mother chimed in saying that her daughter's school had never done an event like this before, however, if they had, she would not dress up and do this. She claims that it would be better to send another male role model.

One Reddit user shared that her own mother, who is a teacher, realized not all of her students come from the same background and have the same "nuclear families." So, to handle this, she rephrased the "mom" and "dad" events and creations, just labeling things for "a loved one."
