Woman Looks To Make History And Become Miss USA's First Contestant In Wheelchair

Every year, women across the country compete in state pageants to see who will be crowned the major "Miss" of their state. After this, they then have the opportunity to compete in the prized Miss USA pageant.

And every year, we see the same type of body competing: tall, slim, toned, Caucasian, tanned, big boobs, and big hair.

Madeline Delp is looking to shake things up in a major way.

Madeline fits into many of the aforementioned categories, but she brings one major addition to the table: she uses a wheelchair.

When she was 10, she and her mother got into a car accident, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down.

She's faced many challenges since, including anxiety, depression, and incontinence, but hasn't let them stop her from being an advocate and inspiration for all women out there.

Although she's won the title of Miss Wheelchair in the past, she's hoping to shake things up in the coveted Miss USA beauty pageant.

Speaking with ABC30, Madeline said, "There's still many ideas of this cookie-cutter image of what beauty represents, and I want to be able to have that really open conversation."

"I am doing this to show people that no matter what your situation, or what your challenge, you can shine bright."

At the core of her advocacy is working to change people's lives in some way or another.

In this instance, she is hoping to help change beauty norms and redefine what it means to be beautiful, inside and out.

This will be her second time competing for the Miss North Carolina title, showing her determination to make an impact in society.

If she wins, she will advance to the 2020 Miss USA pageant and will make history as the first woman in a wheelchair to grace the stage.

Speaking to Glamour she said, "And if I don’t win this year, it’s my full intention to go back next year and give it another try—I’m in it to win it."

We love her dedication and determination, and we will definitely be rooting for her!
