The 2019 Holiday Season Begins And The Rockefeller Christmas Tree Is On Its Way

There are many signs that holiday season is upon us. It could be the first snowfall or the shift from Pumpkin Spice Lattes to Peppermint Mochas (my fave); the signs are different for each of us.

But one major sign of the season is the choice of tree for Rockefeller Center and its journey to NYC.

This year, the most famous Christmas tree in the world will be a 77-foot Norway Spruce.

It was donated by Carol Schultz, who submitted the tree to the Rockefeller Center website back in 2010. She totally didn't expect it to be chosen.

The tree was planted in 1959, when it was only 4 feet tall.

Since then, it's stood in front of the home in Florida, New York.

Schultz, who planted the tree herself all those years ago, told Spectrum News Hudson Valley that it was bittersweet.

"I'm so excited and sad at the same time," she said. "It's like part of me. The tree is part of me and I will miss it."

A crane held the tree upright while the trunk was cut through, with a crowd of townsfolk watching. It was then loaded onto a truck for its ride to NYC.

There, it will take almost a month to decorate it with thousands of lights and ornaments.

This year's lighting of the lights is scheduled for December 4. After the season ends, the tree will be turned into lumber and donated to Habitat for Humanity.
