Baby Trump Balloon Gets Slashed And Deflated In Alabama

It's probably pretty safe to assume that most people recognize what is meant when someone refers to a "Baby Trump balloon", but here's a quick primer just in case.

It all began in July 2018, when people protesting Trump's visit to the UK were looking for a novel way to do so.

A crowdfunding campaign raised enough money to commission the balloon to be made and it garnered so much attention that it's now flown all over the world.

So when word got out that President Trump would be visiting Tuscaloosa to attend an NCAA football game, plans were hatched to have the balloon present too.

A GoFundMe was started by Trace Fayard and Nic Gulas to raise the $4000 required to bring the Baby Trump balloon to Alabama.

They ended up raising $7,882 before they turned donations off, with plans to donate the remainder to the Equal Justice Initiative in Montgomery.

With the goal met, the team scoped out possible locations to launch and settled on Monnish Park.

They ended up about a mile away from the game itself and things were looking good.

Nic Gulas told CNN that the mood was overall positive, with protesters gathering and only the odd pro-Trump shout directed at them.

Sadly, at about 2:30 in the afternoon, someone managed to stab the balloon and Baby Trump deflated.

"It was a random dude just ran up to the balloon, stuck a knife in it, and ran off. We had police close by because of another driver earlier, so they went over and arrested him and his getaway driver," Gulas said.

32-year-old Hoyt Deau Hutchinson was charged with first-degree criminal mischief.
