John Legend Opens Up About How Chrissy Teigen's Postpartum Depression 'Strengthened Their Relationship'

On top of being the "Sexiest Man Alive," you can call John Legend the "Most Supportive Husband."

The singer just opened up about his wife, Chrissy Teigen's, previous battle with postpartum depression and how going through that actually "strengthened" their relationship.

John Legend and Chrissy Teigen may be the parents to two beautiful children, Luna, 2, and Miles, 1, but the road getting there wasn't easy.

Like many couples, they struggled with getting pregnant. Then, afterward, Chrissy dealt with postpartum depression.

Thankfully, John can now say that all of these struggles have "strengthened" their relationship.

Given how unflinchingly real Chrissy is, the supermodel-turned-TV-host wasn't afraid to reveal that she and John were having infertility issues in 2015.

After struggling in private for so long, she spoke out about it on her former talk show, FABLife.

“John and I were having trouble. We would have had kids five, six years ago if it had happened,” she said.

These infertility issues led to the couple, who wed in 2013, to rely on IVF treatments to get pregnant.

While this was stressful enough, Teigen also had to deal with nasty trolls who questioned why she was going the IVF route in the first place.

Thankfully, Chrissy is a clapback pro!

Even after Chrissy gave birth to their first child, the struggles of parenthood were far from over.

It was just the beginning of Teigen's difficult battle with postpartum depression.

She ended up sharing her struggle in an essay to "Glamour."

She wrote that it was when she returned from maternity leave to host Lip Sync Battle that she began noticing symptoms.

“Getting out of bed to get to set on time was painful. My lower back throbbed; my shoulders—even my wrists—hurt,” she wrote.

“I didn’t have an appetite. I would go two days without a bite of food, and you know how big of a deal food is for me.”

This eventually led her to postpone the release of her second Cravings cookbook because "the idea of having to test and taste recipes actually made me vomit.”

During this difficult time, John had thankfully been there for her every step of the way.

“He’s exactly as compassionate, patient, loving and understanding as he seems,” she wrote.

But for him, he saw this as just doing his job.

“For me as a husband, it was my job to do the best I could to support her and understand what she was going through and do whatever I could do to help her. I feel like that’s the least I could do."

He was so proud of her for speaking publicly on an issue that affects so many women.

“I’m glad she wrote about it,” he shared. “I think it was powerful for her to let a lot of women know they’re not alone, and no matter how much money you have or fame, anybody can feel that. And it’s hard for anybody no matter how successful you are and how many resources you have.”

Even during *his* cover story for "People" after being named this year's "Sexiest Man Alive," he shared how Chrissy's postpartum depression "strengthened" their relationship.

“[Parenthood] deepens your love for your partner because you see them in a different light going through, in our case, the trouble of actually having a kid,” he said.

“Then Chrissy’s going through postpartum depression."

"You just see different sides of that person, and if you go through it and you learn from it and you come out the other end better for it, then it deepens and strengthens your relationship.”

In the interview, John also revealed that he and Chrissy may have locked down the secret to parenting.

Spoiler: it all has to do with lots of laughter and music!

“I love seeing my kids discover music and playing on the piano with them. They make us laugh all the time. Luna has a sense of actual comedy."

He continued: She is so much like Chrissy it’s uncanny. I guess that’s why we get along though,” said the singer.

"We hang out together all the time. I love taking her to school and I’ll take her to lunch just the two of us a lot.”

We seriously love this couple!

Andddd in other news, Teigen just shared that she has officially "boned" the "Sexiest Man Alive."

You go, girl!
