Elizabeth Banks Talks Criticism Over 'Charlie's Angels' Reboot; 'You’ve Had 37 Spider-Man Movies'

Um, actually Miss Banks, we've only had 7 Spider-Man movies... 8 if you count the recent animated one. Oh, and I guess you could count the Avengers movies...

Alright so maybe we have had 37! Or something that is slowly reaching that point!

It's true, we can't keep count.

There happens to be a lot of reboots and remakes these days.

Maybe we just like being comfortable and getting served a big bowl of something we already love and recognize. Maybe we like easy content we already recognize over and over again.

Either way, they're here and probably here to stay.

One of these new reboots is the new 'Charlie's Angels' movie.

Columbia Pictures

Based on a TV show that became a movie series, which recently got rebooted into a new movie (which probably has hopes to turn into a series).

This time, Elizabeth Banks gives her own version of the classic tale.

Plenty of people were excited about the upcoming film, because we don't get a lot of action movies about women.

In fact, those who watched the movie even enjoyed it!

I mean, who doesn't like a fun action movie in general? We all have at least one favorite.

But the criticisms of the film were outweighing the positive, and it only made $8 million in its opening weekend.

People are convinced that the problem isn't the women, but rather the fact that it's not original.

But Elizabeth Banks disagrees.

She's definitely aware that it's not doing well, but she's not taking it sitting down.

Besides her self deprecating tweet, she made sure to speak out on why she thinks this happened.

Banks obviously worked very hard on the movie, that much is extremely clear.

In fact, she described the process of making a movie comparable to giving birth.

“Making movies is like giving birth,”

Honestly, I'm not too sure how moms will react to that sentence.

She explained it in detail:

“It’s really hard, and then three months later, you’re like, look at our baby! You’ve already forgotten the trauma of the entire experience. I’m on the other side of it and living in the positivity right now.”

Some people have complained about it being a reboot.

Elizabeth Banks recently took to an interview to address these dissenting opinions, saying that:

“You’ve had 37 Spider-Man movies and you’re not complaining!”

True, very true. We have yet to complain about Spider-Man returning.

However, it seems that the difference between 'Spider-Man' and 'Charlie's Angels' is that 'Spider-Man' became something different every time.

Plus, for people who read comic books, there are so many new timelines and origins that they're used to it.

She continues by implying that the criticisms are based on people being sexist.

Columbia Pictures

“I think women are allowed to have one or two action franchises every 17 years — I feel totally fine with that.”

I mean, she's definitely not wrong. In fact, it'd be nice if we got them more than once every 17 years.

Could it be that we're only complaining about 'Charlie's Angels' because it stars women?

Men, take a hard look at yourselves and try to answer that question. Women, ask yourselves that too (hey, you never know).
