Man, I had no idea that there was a threshold you had to cross. Why wasn't she Asian enough? Is it because she was born in California and not an Asian country?
Honestly, for the most part, I just feel bad for her. What a terrible thing to have said to you.
She wanted to be in Crazy Rich Asians, the biggest movie this year with "Asians" in the title.
However, it seems that even though she is noticeably Asian, she couldn't land a role in the movie...
She did an interview with Teen Vogue recently, where she talked about her trying out for a role in the movie:
“A lot of people don’t know this, but I never got to read for ‘Crazy Rich Asians’, ever.”
“Their reasoning behind that, what they said was that my image was basically not Asian enough, in not so many words.”
And this realization has shocked her. She doesn't even know where she fits anymore.
“I was like, ‘Where do I fit?’”
Sorry to hear about that, Brenda Song. But there will be much more Asian led roles in the future.
Crazy Rich Asians will not be your last shot!
