Emily McWilliams 25 Nov 2019

Most parents are always looking for ways to save money when they can. Anyone with kids will tell you that they go through food, diapers, and clothes at an alarming rate.

One mom has recently shared a genius Target hack that'll make you hold onto your receipts the next time you buy kids' clothes.

For a lot of parents, Target is the ultimate one-stop shop.

A lot of parents are fond of Target's kids' clothing line, Cat and Jack.

The clothing line offers cute and affordable essentials for kids.

It's also very popular because of its generous return policy which allows parents to return any worn-out or damaged items up to a year after purchasing, as long as you have the original receipt.

One mom has discovered a loophole in this policy that could extend its value even further.

The post explains that since the return policy doesn't specify that the replacement item has to be the same size as the original, parents can size up.

The policy was designed to cover damage from regular wear and tear, but many have realized you can extend the value by sizing up when returning a damaged clothing item.

It's unclear if Nicole came up with the hack herself, or shared an existing post, but it went viral.

Others have confirmed this loophole exists.

WKYC Studios verified the claim via Target's updated return policy, which was released in 2015.

“Effective immediately, guests can bring back owned and exclusive-brand items with their receipt to a Target store to receive a full refund within one year of the item’s purchase date. This is an adjustment from the previous 90-day limit,” the policy states.

This policy also applies to ANY Target brand including Xhilaration, A New Day, and Merona

As long as it is a Target-owned brand, any product can be returned or exchanged up to a year after purchase with the original receipt.

While other stores like Walmart have similar return policies, they have made sure to close this loophole.

Walmart will also provide an exchange on damaged children's clothes but their policy specifies that it must be of the same size.
