Dennis Quaid Addressed The 39-Year Age Gap With Fiancée Laura Savoie

Dennis Quaid isn't letting any backlash surrounding the 39-year age gap between he and his fiancée Laura Savoie get him down.

Newsflash: Yes, actor Dennis Quaid, 65, is aware of the 39-year age gap with his fiancée Laura Savoie.

And no, he doesn't really care.

Quaid has always been quite the monogamous type.

His engagement to the 26-year-old PhD student comes about a year after he had split from his longtime girlfriend Santa Auzina.

Before Auzina, who he was last photographed with in December 2018, Quaid was married to Kimberly Buffington.

She was his wife for 12 years before they got divorced in 2016.

He was even once married to actress Meg Ryan!

They were together for 10 years and even have a 27-year-old son named Jack!

While the "Midway" actor seems very in love with his fiancée, the couple faced a lot of negative press attention back when they first got engaged.

The proposal had taken place in October while they were vacationing in Hawaii.

Given the fact that Quaid is much older than Savoie, people mainly took issue with their 39-year age gap.

It led to a lot of tweets like this one.

Recently, the actor shared how he felt about the negative press attention to "The Guardian"

"That was really a laugh," the 65-year-old actor said. "I thought it was wonderful, actually."

Spoken like a true man in love! He also admitted that he doesn't let societal views of large age gaps get to him.

"No, it really doesn't bother us. Everyone comes from the perspective of their own life and so I can't comment on the way they feel; I can't even get angry."

"I didn't go out looking for an age gap or someone really younger than me."

He then explained how the pair met.

"I met her at a business event and then the relationship developed," he explained.

"You have no control over who you fall in love with. I don't fall in love easy."

"But I can't let what a few people think control all that. I've been married three times and this is the final one, I know it is. I feel like I have a real partner in life."

Back when all this backlash was happening, there was one tweet that helped lighten the negativity:

It belongs to none other than Elaine Hendrix, the actress who played Quaid's almost-wife in The Parent Trap.

Elaine's tweet was a playful way to refer to the 11-year-old twins (played by Lindsay Lohan) who disapproved of their dad marrying a much younger woman.

And get this: Quaid even has 11-year-old twins in real life with his third wife.

When he was asked about the tweet, he admitted that he laughed about it just like the rest of us.

"In fact, that very day, we went to the Staglin Family Vineyard, where we filmed The Parent Trap, I hadn't been there since 1996."

In an even crazier turn of events, Quaid said that went there and they "offered us the opportunity to get married there."

When asked if he would actually get married there, he replied, "Well, wouldn't you? For sure!"

"I think you have to get married within a year of asking," he said when asked about a date.

By our calculations, this would mean a summer or early fall wedding!

We'll have to wait and see if Lindsay Lohan or Elaine Hendrix nab an invite!
