7+ Celeb Parents Who Support How Their Kids Express Themselves Despite Gender Norms

Gender norms be damned.

These 7+ celebs are supporting how their kids express themselves no matter what — even if it means going against the grain of societal gender norms.

1. Charlize Theron

"Yes, I thought she was a boy, too," she told the Daily Mail back in April when there was a ton of speculation over the Mad Max actress raising her adopted son Jackson as a girl.

"Until she looked at me when she was three years old and said: 'I am not a boy!"

Since then, the mom of two adopted children has done everything she can to support Jackson — even if it means sometimes taking heat on social media.

If it means allowing her children to be who they want to be, it's worth it.

"My job as a parent is to celebrate them and to love them and to make sure that they have everything they need in order to be what they want to be," she said.

"And I will do everything in my power for my kids to have that right and to be protected within that."

Her "co-parent" Greta, AKA her mom, agrees with this way of parenting.

2. Gwen Stefani

The singer and The Voice judge is fine with her girly side rubbing off on her sons, Zuma and Kingston.

For her, it just happens!

"It's one of those things where, it's not like I don't think about it, but they're used to being around me, and I'm always doing my hair, makeup, nails. It's just normal for them," she told ParadeSource.

"What I like to say is that being unique and original is what makes me happy, and I think that rubs off on them," she said.

Another time her kids took after her fashion sense was when Kingston made headlines for wearing a tutu to a birthday party in 2013.

When Shiloh, the biological child she shares with Brad Pitt, asked to be called "John," at eight years old, Jolie didn't hesitate to support her child's request.

She's also okay with Shiloh having a more masculine style.

"Shiloh, we feel has Montenegro style," she told Vanity Fair."

"She likes tracksuits, she likes [regular] suits. So it's a suit with a tie and a jacket and slacks, or a tracksuit," she told "Vanity Fair."

"She likes to dress like a boy. She wants to be a boy. So we had to cut her hair. She likes to wear boys' everything. She thinks she's one of the brothers."

The former basketball player will always take shots against those who try to knock his family down.

When Wade's wife, Gabrielle Union, shared an image of the happy family on Thanksgiving, some trolls had an issue with Wade's son, Zion, sporting fake nails and a crop top.

Wade took to Instagram to defend Zion against the trolls.

This isn't the first time Wade has publicly supported Zion's gender choices.

Back in October, Wade uploaded an image of his wife, their 11-month-old daughter Kaavia, and Zion with the caption "My Girls."

Months later, Wade slammed back against any of the haters during an interview with "Variety."

“I don’t really talk about it much because it’s Zion’s story to tell. I think as a family, we should support each other. That’s our job,” he said.

At the end of the day, he's just doing what's right by his kids.

“And my job as a father is to facilitate their lives and to support them and be behind them in whatever they want to do. My role is to support my kids and love my kids.”

5. Megan Fox

When Megan shared an image of her son wearing a Frozen-themed dress in 2017, she faced a ton of mommy-shaming.

In response, the actress clapped back against the haters.

"He designs. He draws outfits. He's very talented, but he's still 6. He's really into fashion. Sometimes, he'll dress himself and he likes to wear dresses sometimes..."

She continued: "We're going through that now, where I'm trying to teach him to be confident no matter what anyone else says," she said.

"He came home and I was like, 'How was it? Did any of the friends at school have anything to say?' And he was like, 'Well, all the boys laughed when I came in,' but he's like, 'I don't care, I love dresses too much.'"

6. Magic Johnson

The basketball star had the perfect response to his son E.G. coming out and wearing gender-bending fashion.

"It’s all about loving them no matter who they are, what they decide to do," Magic said on "The Ellen Show."

"And when my son came out, I was so happy for him, and happy for us as parents — and we love him, and E.J. is amazing," he told Ellen.

The singer is raising her children in a label-free household.

"I was in a school and the bathroom outside the kindergarten said: 'Gender Neutral — anybody,' and it was a drawing of many different shapes."

"I took a picture of it and I wrote: 'Progress.' I thought that was awesome. I love that kids are having this conversation," she said.

8. Jaime King

King was fully on board with giving her son full reign of what to wear to the Incredibles 2 premiere — even if that meant him wearing a dress.

"I love my baby SO MUCH!!! He chose my lipstick and dress with Annabelle Harron," she wrote.

11. Céline Dion

The superstar has a closet full of amazing heels and she's not afraid to let her sons wear them.

In 2013, she even told Katie Couric that her son, Nelson, looks better in heels than she does.

He’s “2½ and he looks better in heels than me,” she shared.

The singer also let her son, Rene-Charles, grow his hair out long when he was 12.

The family only cut it because of school regulations.

But if Rene-Charles had wanted to keep his hair long, she would have supported him 100 percent.

“I said that there’s a rule in school that you have to cut your hair short,” Dion told Access Hollywood.

“If you want to go to that school, you have to cut the hair. If you don’t want to cut the hair, we are going to have to change schools.”
