Movie Sequels That Are Way Better Than The Original

These are the movies that had an original, sure, but we would rather watch the sequel any day, any time.

It doesn't mean the originals are bad, the sequel is just better. Sometimes, just through the addition of an actor, the movie is brought to a whole other level of magic.

*Thor: Ragnarok*

Marvel

The original Thor movies had a bit of trouble with taking themselves way too seriously.

Luckily, Taika Waititi was able to step in and make the Thor movies fun again.

*Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior*

IMDb

Probably the best in the Mad Max series, Road Warrior features one of the best villains in the Mad Max canon: Lord Humungus.

Also, it's got a lot of apocalyptic action.

*Evil Dead 2*

IMDb

The first one was pretty good, but it was when they decided to embrace the over-the-top horror/comedy genre that the series really took off.

And plus, how can you not love Evil Dead 2 over the original? It's practically law.

*Jackass Number Two*

IMDb

The first film will always hold a special place in boys' hearts for "that movie you watched at every sleepover", but the second film is where things truly took off.

*Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge Of The Sith*

Lucasfilm

We had two really sub-par (at least according to most people) prequels, but then we had this little gem that has not only produced many great memories but many great memes.

*Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan*

IMDb

This is probably considered to be one of the best movies in the entre Star: Trek movie franchise.

It has that iconic moment where William Shatner (Kirk) screams out "Khan!".

*Batman Returns*

IMDb

Seems The Dark Knight wasn't the only better Batman sequel!

Sure, the first Batman was dark and gothic, but the second amped that dark, gothic nature up to a whole other level!

*Terminator 2: Judgement Day*

IMDb

While the first Terminator is no doubt a classic, the second one is considered to be one of the all-time action greats.

All they needed to do was switch Arnold from the bad to the good guy.

*Godzilla: King Of The Monsters*

Toho

The first of the Godzilla reboots was cool, but it didn't give us any really cool monsters for Godzilla to fight.

The sequel was jam-packed with them, including the fan-favorite King Ghidorah.

*Captain America: The Winter Soldier*

Marvel

The first Captain America was not widely loved.

The second Captain America movie, with all of its spy-thriller action and mystery, is widely beloved. It seems like a no-brainer to me that it should e on the list.

*Shrek 2*

Dreamworks

While the original Shrek will always hold a place in our hearts for being love and life, the second Shrek was a masterpiece of comedy, of action and of course, of songs.

*Star Wars Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back*

Lucasfilm

Besides maybe Godfather 2, this is the king of movie sequels that were better than the original.

In fact, this might be the greatest thing to come out of Star Wars.

*The Godfather: Part II*

IMDb

Sure, the first Godfather was a masterpiece of a film, but the second Godfather... oh baby. This is the one that completely blew everyone's minds.

Is there something above the word 'masterpiece'? Perfection, perhaps?

*The Dark Knight*

IMDb

Who remembers Batman Begins? I remember there was some Liam Neeson, I think Scarecrow was in it...

But the fact of the matter is everyone knows The Dark Knight. Because it's great. And Heath Ledger gave an iconic performance.
