A Viral Experiment Has People Sending Selfies To Their Moms Without Any Context

Moms are the best. They're your best advocate no matter what.

A girl on Twitter had a theory that she wanted people to test. She asked her followers to take a "Facebook mom-style" selfie and send it to their mom without any explanation. Then, people would post their mom's reactions on a Twitter thread.

Her theory was that no matter what you look like in the selfie, your mom will still compliment you. Let's see if the theory proved to be true!

Abigail Sanders was the first person to come up with this idea and share it on Twitter.

When she tested her theory with her own mom, she was totally right. Abigail's mom complimented her and she shared her mom's response on her Twitter thread.

Since then, other people started sharing their moms' reactions to this theory.

Abigail's theory was inspired by her roommate's idea to send each other "mom-style" selfies to laugh about.

Then, her roommate's mom saw one of the pictures. The mom thought it was totally cute even though the roommate was making a silly face.

So that's where Abigail's theory was born and she set out to prove it on Twitter.

This is just one exchange from another Twitter user and his mom. Moms love getting pics from their kids, apparently!

Abigail thinks that no matter how dumb you look in a picture, your mom will still hype you up.

I guess that's just how supportive moms really are.

This experiment proves that moms love their kids no matter what.

Twitter | @haleyburme

Whether they're acting silly or making funny faces, moms are here to love and support us all the way.

Abigail didn't think her post would get as much of a response as it did.

She ended up getting about 139,700 likes and 14,600 retweets in just a few weeks.

The majority of responses from moms getting a surprise picture from their kids unannounced like this have been very positive.

And moms were really happy to receive them.

Some moms even took it upon themselves to repost the pictures their kids sent to them to the 'gram.

Ha, ha, ha. I don't see why not. So sweet!

Others replied with a few hilarious responses and then shared pictures of themselves having fun.

I guess they feel like they want to connect even more with their kids.

Some even questioned the sanity of their kids. ROTFL!

Twitter | @nope_lle

That is so funny. I guess this mom isn't accustomed to getting happy pictures of her daughter out of nowhere. LOL!

Another thing Abigail learned from her fun exercise was that moms are just happy to receive a text from their kids, period.

And it can make their day better.

But don't think you can get away with everything just because you send a cute and innocent photo to your mom.

It clearly didn't work for this guy.

For some, the experiment turned into a savage roasting from their moms.

Twitter | @mojito_jones

In case you were wondering, this mom is divorced from this Twitter user's father. Makes sense.

A few moms replied with their own lovely selfies.

Twitter | @sarahloukay

I can't tell if she is mocking her daughter or being genuine. Beautiful photos either way.

While many moms fulfilled Abigail's theory, a few Twitter users wondered if their moms were being honest with their compliments.

Twitter | @lilmsawkward

Doesn't the ellipsis in this mom's reply make you think she was put on the spot and had to come up with something quick?

Then there were the replies from moms who just wanted to be left alone.

Twitter | @theealexvig

Hey, every mom needs some time to recover from parenting for the last 20 years or so. LOL!

This experiment gave a few moms the opportunity to drop some big news.

Twitter | @brandistroup

Nothing shows up your cute selfie like the news that your sister is pregnant. I guess a congratulation is in order?

It also spawned some pretty weird medical advice from some moms.

Twitter | @CamrynRae316

Like this mom who thought her daughter's reflection was a "growth". I can't tell if she was asking out of concern or was roasting her daughter.

Or this mom who told her son he looked like he had the mumps.

Twitter | @c0nye__west

The mumps is a disease, in case you didn't know. Thanks for clarifying, mom!

Then, there was this mom who thought her daughter's smile signalled a toothache.

Twitter | @Bdubbbbbs

I guess this is the kind of response you get when you don't text your mom often enough.

I think this counts as a compliment.

Twitter | @morganneeliz

Moms are the only ones who can get away with calling their kids "cuddly."

Yes, moms just really love seeing their kids' faces.

Twitter | @@iamhanamiller

And they'll compliment your picture no matter what (for the most part).

Or if they're really hip, they can be totally on to you just like this clever mom.

Twitter | @seabreeezyyy

I wonder where she got an idea like that from. LOL!

In the end, this shows that we should really be much nicer and sweeter to our moms because they'll always be our number one fans.

And they deserve so much, so pick up the phone and give them a text!
