Radio Host Fired After Wishing For 'Nice School Shooting' To Interrupt Impeachment

A Colorado radio host has been fired and his show cancelled after he went on air and wished for a "nice school shooting" to happen so as to the interrupt news surrounding President Trump's impeachment, CNN reported.

Chuck Bonniwell was opening a segment of his show, Chuck & Julie, on Tuesday when he made the shocking remarks.

The Aurora-based host began by telling listeners they would be discussing the "never-ending impeachment of Donald Trump."

He then goes on to admit, "You know, you wish for a nice school shooting to interrupt it."

“No, no. Don’t even – don’t even say that," Bonniwell's wife and co-host, Julie Hayden, quickly said. "No, don’t even say that. Don’t call us. Chuck didn’t say that.”

Bonniwell added that he wouldn't want anyone to get hurt before the show moved on with a caller.

The radio station, 710 KNUS, has since called Bonniwell's comments "inappropriate," particularly given the history of Aurora, Colorado.

In 2012, a gunman entered a movie theater in the city and opened fire on a packed auditorium of movie-goers attending the midnight premiere of the Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises.

12 people were killed in the attack and dozens more injured.

The Chuck & Julie show has since been cancelled and Bonniwell has been fired from the station.

According to KDVR, the disgraced host recently released a since-deleted statement apologizing for his comments in which he wrote that what he said was meant to be taken as a joke.

"I'm sorry it was not received in that light," he said.

On Thursday morning, Bonniwell and Hayden released a joint statement on the show's Facebook page.

In that statement, they write that Bonniwell would "un-say" his comments if he could, and added that as parents of a child in elementary school, they worry about school shootings and their son's safety.

"Violence causes too much hurt for victims and their families and we truly did not intend to add to that pain," the pair wrote.
