Teen Who Made His Prom Date A Dazzling Dress From Scratch Lands Dream Job

This past May, two students from Indiana made headlines after one of them personally sewed his prom date a beautiful dress entirely from scratch, despite having absolutely no prior sewing experience whatsoever.

Now, that same teen is in the news again after it was announced he has not only continued to sew beautiful pieces beyond his date's dress, but has also successfully landed his dream job.

Getting a prom dress is a pretty important rite of passage for a lot of teenage girls.

There was just one problem: the price tag.

After discussing the disappointing cost with her prom date, junior Parker Smith, the Indiana teen joked, "Parker, why don't you make my prom dress!"

She never expected her devoted date to take her words to heart and actually set out to do just that. But that's exactly what he did.

Never say never though, because that's exactly what he did.

Parker got to work, even sketching out a beautiful design of Adrianna's soon-to-be gown.

Although he had no prior sewing experiencing, the teen was determined to give his date the prom dress of her dreams and taught himself how to work a sewing machine. Along the way, he also got some helpful tips and learned some tricks from his grandma to help make the gown the best it could possibly be.

It took Parker months of painstaking designing, sewing, and re-sewing to create the ultimate prom dress.

In fact, he was so dedicated to his work that he even continued to labor over the piece right up until the very last minute!

“I’m such a perfectionist that I was up adding more stones to the dress even the night before prom,” Parker told FOX59.

Thankfully, all that hard work came together and in the end, Parker was able to proudly gift his date her stunning prom dress.

Although Adrianna had been involved in the entire dress-making process and had seen the gown throughout the different stages of its construction, she still teared up at the sight of the final product.

Parker had managed to expertly create a dazzling blue ballgown, complete with enough tulle to allow his date to twirl around the dance floor like a legit princess.

Adrianna was so proud of her homemade gown that she posted several photos of the pair online to share Parker's beautiful work with the world.

"Taking a minute to brag on this man because I think this is the coolest thing that I’ve ever been a part of," she wrote on Twitter. "Parker MADE my prom dress. Straight from scratch did the whole thing and I am still speechless. I’m so lucky to have him as my best friend!"

The post quickly went viral and caught the attention of many people who found the story of a young teen hand-sewing his prom date's dress to be just too darn sweet.

Adrianna's pictures online show the happy friends getting ready to attend prom together and looking like quite a knockout couple.

Parker wore a light grey suit to match Adrianna's baby blue gown and can be seen helping his date twirl in one photo to show off her spectacular gown. In another, he places a corsage onto her wrist as the two prepare to head to prom.

After his dress-making skills went viral last May, Parker announced that he's decided to pursue fashion as a career.

He told Fox 59 that he plans on studying costume design and musical theater in college with the hopes of one day becoming a Broadway costume designer.

It would seem Parker has truly found his calling, as he has since landed a job in his prospective field.

According to Fox 59, the teen recently caught he attention of Bob Harbin, who is directing a musical production of Cinderella for Indiana's Footlite Musicals.

Harbin was so impressed with Parker's work that he was hired to make two dresses for the show's leading lady, Cinderella herself! And judging from the stunning transformation gown that Parker posted on Twitter (above), it's safe to say he's found the perfect career!
