Pink Donates $500K To Combat Wildfires In Australia: 'I Am Totally Devastated'

U.S. singer Pink has recently announced that she has pledged $500,000 to fire services in Australia in an effort to help fight the worsening bushfires in the region, Huffington Post reported.

The "Beautiful Trauma" artist, 40, joins other high-profile celebs who are using their social media platforms to bring awareness to the destruction and encourage fans to donate towards combating the devastating fires as well.

A total of 23 people have died so far as a result of the bushfires that continue to spread throughout Australia.

Since beginning in September, the uncontrollable blaze has wiped out about 5 million hectares (12.35 million acres) of land and destroyed more than 1,500 homes.

Australia's wildlife has taken the hardest hit from the fires, with nearly half a billion animals believe to have been killed in the blazes.

On January 4, Pink tweeted about the wildfires in Australia and revealed that she is "totally devastated" by the destruction.

In the same tweet, she announced to her 32.2 million Twitter followers that she has donated $500,000 to local fire services "that are battling so hard on the frontlines."

"My heart goes out to our friends and family in Oz," she added.

Her Twitter post also included a list on online resources, and she encouraged her fans to "show their support by making a donation."

Hours after Pink tweeted about her pledge, singer Selena Gomez announced she, too, has donated to fight the wildfires.

In her tweet, she also encouraged her fans to follow suit: "I'm making a donation and would love if you would consider doing the same if you can."

Queer Eye star Bobby Berk recently shared a sobering photo of a kangaroo amid the wildfires on Instagram urged his 2.6 million Instagram followers to donate to help local services and organizations

Other stars have taken to social media to voice their support for those fighting the fires, express sympathy for the lives lost, and encourage their fans to donate.

Actress Melissa Joan Hart tweeted to encourage her fans to donate to the Red Cross, as well as to Wild Warriors, Steve and Terri Irwin's organization that helps protect threatened or endangered wildlife.

Singer Kelly Rowland also shared an Instagram post captioned, "As the world welcomes a new year, let us keep all those affected by the horrific fires in Australia in our hearts. While the devastation to OUR environment, the wildlife and of course the human toll grows, let's hold each other up with love and prayer."

Some celebrities are using the devastating fires to urge action against climate change.

Actress Bette Middler recently tweeted to condemn Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, who in December announced the Australian government will not be increasing its efforts to combat climate change, despite the wildfires and heatwaves plaguing the nation.

Legendary musical artist Cher also tweeted at her fans about the wildfires and wrote in all-caps, "This is what climate change looks like!"
