It takes a lot of courage to come out of the closet, whether it's about your sexuality or your gender identity. Forcibly outing someone who isn't ready to come out can have long-lasting damaging effects on their mental health and their safety.
Beauty YouTuber Nikkie de Jager, more commonly known as NikkieTutorials, just released an emotional video touching on the subject.
However, despite being one of the biggest names in beauty guru YouTube, Nikkie has revealed she is still susceptible to those who would try to hurt her in exchange for power.
"I can't believe I'm saying this today to all of you for the entire world to see. But damn, it feels good to finally do it. It is time to let go and be truly free," Nikkie begins the video by saying. "When I was younger, I was born in the wrong body, which means that I am transgender now."
"But there's one thing that I really, really want to make so clear to all of you. I am me. I am still Nikki. Nothing changes about that."
"Today I am here to share with you something I have always wanted to share with you one day – but under my own circumstances,” Nikkie says early on in her video, "It looks like that chance has been taken away from me, so today I am taking back my own power."
Nikkie flashes her middle finger at the camera and says it is a message since she has been “blackmailed by people wanting to leak my story to the press.”
While it's awful that someone tried to blackmail Nikkie with this information, the video Nikkie posted is truly amazing, and we're all so proud of Nikkie for living her truth!
