Epcot’s ‘Space 220’ Restaurant Promises An Out-Of-This-World Dining Experience

If you're planning a visit to Disney World's Epcot theme park in 2020 and happen to love all things space related, I may have just found the ultimate dining experience for you.

"Space 220" is a brand new restaurant that will be opening some time during the 2020 winter season and promises guests a truly intergalactic dining experience.

The new restaurant is part of the park's popular Mission: SPACE pavilion that first opened back in 2003.

According to the official Walt Disney World website, Space 220 will offer guests the opportunity to "dine among the stars."

"Step inside Space 220 — a celestial panorama of a space station — for a delicious meal!"

But getting to your table isn't as simple as walking through some basic restaurant doors.

Hungry diners must first board a special elevator below the restaurant, which will then mimic the experience of being shot up into orbit. As you travel "220 miles above the earth", you'll be treated to a beautiful aerial view of Epcot before finally docking at the Centauri Space Station.

It's definitely quite the ride for a meal, but Disney promises it'll all be worth it.

Once you've exited your elevator, you enter the main dining room, which is dominated by a gigantic 250-foot digital screen.

This screen is what will simulate the feeling of actually eating a meal in space, as per the the park's website:

"As you dine, peer out and enjoy amazing daytime and nighttime views of Earth from 220 miles up."

From what we can tell from the concept art, it looks like guests will have the option of either dining at tables, or sitting at the bar. But I'd sooner pick a table — they definitely have the best view.

So what sort of out-of-this-world food can you expect from Space 220?

Well, we don't exactly know yet. One Disney blog has confirmed that the Patina Restaurant Group is developing a brand new menu featuring "internationally-inspired cuisine, more than 1,000 bottles of the world's finest wines, and a wide selection of craft beer."

Patina is also responsible for operating a few other popular, Italian-inspired Disney restaurants, including the Via Napoli pizzeria and Tutto Italia Ristorante in Epcot.

No firm opening date has been announced yet, but there have been rumors of February 2020 floating around.

For now, we'll just have to keep our ears to the ground and wait until we have confirmed blast-off for this epic, space-themed eatery.
