Man Takes Selfies After Being Locked Inside A 24 Hour Fitness

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have an entire department store to yourself? Or maybe a restaurant? How about a gym?

Well, Dan Hill of Sandy, Utah got to experience that last one, and although it wasn't quite as fun as you'd think, he sure got a good moment or two out of it.

Hill had decided to go to his local 24 Hour Fitness to get a late-night workout in when, oddly, everybody else disappeared. Yes, even the staff.

As he explained in a Facebook post, "They closed the doors and went home while I was swimming my laps in the pool. Doesn't the name suggest that they stay open 24 hours?"

Hill said that he tried to get out on his own, but he was worried about triggering an alarm.

So he called his wife, who told him to "find a comfortable place to sleep," he told KTVX-TV.

Of course, it would be a bit awkward if someone came to work and found him there, so Hill called the police.

"So, I called dispatch and the guy pauses for like 10 seconds and says, 'You're where?' And I said, 'I'm in 24 Hour Fitness, and there's an alarm system here and I don't want to get busted for breaking and entering.'"

While he waited for the police to show up and let him out, Hill wandered around the gym and took some amusing selfies.

Because really, what else do you do? It's a prime time to make up a good Facebook post, and that's just what he did.

So far, his post has racked up more than 36,000 reactions and 14,000 shares.

The police did eventually show up and set Hill free.

As a manager later explained, the 24 Hour Fitness Hill found himself locked inside had recently changed its hours. While many locations are indeed always open, some close between midnight and 4 a.m.

In a statement to KTVX-TV, the company apologized, saying "We clearly did not do a good job of our closing procedures for this club on Saturday night and will reinforce our club procedures so that this incident doesn't occur in the future."

Hill has taken it all in stride.

He's still a customer at that 24 Hour Fitness. However, he did take a good natured shot in a follow-up post, showing the precaution he took during his next visit.

"Despite all the fuss, I still love my 24 (even if it is now 20)," he wrote. "Maybe this is a workable solution..."
