After an oddly mild and rainy December, winter has properly arrived in my neck of the woods. It's cold, the snow brushes and shovels are in regular use, and I'm already over it.
The heavy quilt is on the bed, the humidifier is burbling away 24/7, and there is always a space heater within an optimal-yet-safe distance from my toes.
His name is Busao and he lives in Japan.
Though Japanese winters don't get as cold as some more northerly nations, central heating in homes isn't very common. So space heaters and kotatsu (low tables draped with a quilt and a heater underneath) are popular.
It could be the thin ray of sunlight peeking through the closed blinds or it could be your laptop keyboard an hour before your paper is due. If it's warm, they'll find it.
But like... he really loves that space heater.
Look how zen he is as he soaks in the heat.
In the video, you can see him just barely adjust position whenever his head begins to droop a little too close to the heat.
I think I've found my winter patronus. When I'm chilly, I'm going to try imagining Busao and his warm glow. Be the Busao.
