It's Official: Dunkaroos Are Coming Out Of Retirement This Summer

Once upon a time there was a coveted snack food named Dunkaroos. Dunkaroos helped fill a void in our lunchboxes. Dunkaroos were there to keep us happy and entertained while we waited for dinner. Dunkaroos were there to satisfy our necessary icing cravings (anyone else just eat the vanilla icing?).

Dunkaroos were there, and then, suddenly, they weren't. It was 2012, and it was a dark time when Millennials, who had previously neglected the nostalgic unhealthy treat, suddenly realized they would never have the opportunity to ever eat it again. Our youth was officially dead...

That is, unless you lived in Canada or Australia.

Dunkaroos were still being produced in Canada up until 2018 and are still being produced in Australia because Australians know what's up!

How could the citizens of the United States of America, the United States of Junk Food, FAIL one of the best snacks of our childhood?

Back last October, Instagram junk food leaker @junkfoodleaks_ made a huge announcement that, after 8 solemn years, Dunkaroos would be making a comeback this summer.

It was truly shocking! This is not a claim to be taken lightly.

"I don't have an official date or any idea when "summer 2020" means. But what I can say is that the information I have regarding Dunkaroos coming back to the USA in 2020 comes from a VERY WELL placed source within the General Mills inner circle, who of course owns Betty Crocker," they wrote.

Despite the haters, they were right.

January 24th, 2020 seemed like any other Friday. While many Monday-to-Friday workers were getting ready to celebrate the weekend, little did they know they would be celebrating something else...

An Instagram-verified Dunkaroos posted a delicious macro shot of their iconic vanilla rainbow sprinkles frosting with a simple "👀" in the caption.

It couldn't be...but...could it?

Let it be known that on this day, February 3rd, 2020, Dunkaroos is back, baby!

Well, not exactly yet. They'll be returning sometime this summer, but STILL.

It looks like they've gotten a bit of an upgrade.

So far, it looks like their initial release will include their classic Vanilla Cookies and Vanilla Frosting with Rainbow Sprinkles flavor (woof! That sure is a mouthful).

Let's hope they don't skimp on the icing!

Now, it doesn't look like the kangaroo mascots Sydney or Duncan (get it, like "dunk in?") will be gracing the packaging, which is a bit upsetting.

They will forever be in our tender nostalgic hearts.

I didn't think I would be this excited for junk food entering my 29th year on this earth, but here we are!
