Pop icon, Selena Gomez, just announced that she will be releasing her own makeup line, and fans are already protesting it and urging her to dabble in something else.
Yikes!
“Being rare is about being comfortable with yourself,” she described in her initial announcement across social media.
The name of her makeup brand is obviously a nod to her latest album, "Rare".
“It’s meant to be enjoyed — it’s very special,” she said. “We are not meant to look like everybody else, we’re meant to look like ourselves.”
“There’s lots and lots of other things I want to share with you guys, but we’re going to share them within a few months,” she said.
“Guys, I’ve been working on this special project for two years and can officially say Rare Beauty is launching in Sephora stores in North America this summer!”
Understandably, many people think that she is diving into a market that is already oversaturated by other celebrities.
Rihanna, Kylie Jenner, Lady Gaga, Jessica Alba, Hilary Duff, Millie Bobby Brown, and Kesha all have their own beauty lines.
So, naturally, fans don't find Selena diving into the beauty industry to be fitting.
Seeing how successful other celeb makeup lines have been, it's possible that she is hoping for the same outcome.
In a world where every celebrity seems to be starting up a makeup line, this definitely comes off as predictable and "repetitive".
But hey, to give her the benefit of the doubt, only time will tell!
No one:
Selena Gomez: "Guys, I’ve been working on this special project for two years and can officially say Rare Beauty is launching".
But also smart of her to utilize a pre-existing platform that caters to her exact demographic.
Hopefully, it's nothing like her 2018 Met Gala look, amirite?
Fans are fed up with celebrity makeup lines and are looking for something fresh!
But Selena Gomez is a queen and I'm totally rooting for her to prove us all wrong!
