Selena Gomez's New Makeup Line Was Just Announced And It Already Has Fans Upset

Pop icon, Selena Gomez, just announced that she will be releasing her own makeup line, and fans are already protesting it and urging her to dabble in something else.

Yikes!

On February 4th, Selena Gomez announced that she will be launching her own line of makeup called, "Rare Beauty".

“Being rare is about being comfortable with yourself,” she described in her initial announcement across social media.

“I’ve stopped trying to be perfect. I just want to be me.”

The name of her makeup brand is obviously a nod to her latest album, "Rare".

“It’s meant to be enjoyed — it’s very special,” she said. “We are not meant to look like everybody else, we’re meant to look like ourselves.”

She didn't give away too much about what the makeup line is going to look like or what it is going to include just yet.

“There’s lots and lots of other things I want to share with you guys, but we’re going to share them within a few months,” she said.

She did reveal, however, that the line will be available at Sephora across North America come summer 2020.

“Guys, I’ve been working on this special project for two years and can officially say Rare Beauty is launching in Sephora stores in North America this summer!”

While Selena seems to be excited and feels that the launch of her makeup line is highly anticipated, many fans have responded poorly to her latest business venture.

Understandably, many people think that she is diving into a market that is already oversaturated by other celebrities.

She will be competing with tons of other celebrities with successful makeup brands.

Rihanna, Kylie Jenner, Lady Gaga, Jessica Alba, Hilary Duff, Millie Bobby Brown, and Kesha all have their own beauty lines.

Not to mention, Selena is known for a lot of things, but rocking bold, groundbreaking makeup looks isn't one of them.

So, naturally, fans don't find Selena diving into the beauty industry to be fitting.

Some people are calling Selena's upcoming makeup line a "cash grab".

Seeing how successful other celeb makeup lines have been, it's possible that she is hoping for the same outcome.

Other fans are calling Selena out for being unoriginal.

In a world where every celebrity seems to be starting up a makeup line, this definitely comes off as predictable and "repetitive".

This person hinted that if Rare Beauty is anything like what we've seen from Selena's makeup looks so far, it's going to be bland af.

But hey, to give her the benefit of the doubt, only time will tell!

Another person raised the point that Selena had zero demand for a makeup line from her fans, but chose to make one anyway.

No one:

Selena Gomez: "Guys, I’ve been working on this special project for two years and can officially say Rare Beauty is launching".

This fan pointed out that Selena turned one of her old tour pages into the Rare Beauty Instagram account to make it look like it's taking off quickly.

  1. This is sneaky.

But also smart of her to utilize a pre-existing platform that caters to her exact demographic.

Selena, more often than not, has worn more natural-looking makeup, so it's hard to imagine what "Rare Beauty" is going to entail.

Hopefully, it's nothing like her 2018 Met Gala look, amirite?

Anyways, you get the point. There is absolutely no shortage of tweets like this one:

Fans are fed up with celebrity makeup lines and are looking for something fresh!

Evidently, the Rare Beauty's feedback has not been very positive.
