All of the longtime "Grey's Anatomy" fans probably remember the days when Mr. and Mrs. Shepherd were still an item.

So, when fans spotted Patrick swooning over Kate's latest Instagram photo, it understandably tugged at their heartstrings.
This wasn't the first time that Patrick has tortured his fans by commenting on one of Kate's photos, however.
Last January he commented "beautiful" under this photo.
While Patrick has been happily married to his wife, Jillian, for nearly 21 years, fans can't help but root for this TV-couple to get together IRL.

But wait, it gets even better.
Kate responded to Patrick's comment, obviously referring to some kind of inside joke between them.
"Kitty, I LAVA u," she replied, with a heart emoji.
This triggered "Grey's Anatomy" fans in the best possible way.

I'll admit, before seeing Patrick's comment on Kate's photo, I hadn't thought about Derek and Addison in a long time.
This really took us Grey's fans off-guard.
This person hilariously pointed out that fans have such a hard time separating the characters on the show from the real-life actors.
