House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is standing by her decision to tear up President Trump's State of the Union address, and has reaffirmed her belief that the script was riddled with false statements, making it worthy of shredding.
As CNN reported, Pelosi made headlines this week after she picked up her copy of Trump's speech and ripped the pages in half just moments after he finished delivering it at the State of the Union on Tuesday.
"I tore up a manifesto of mistruths," she said in response to a question about whether she'd stepped over a line of decorum. "It was necessary to get the attention of the American people to say, 'This is not true. And this is how it affects you.'"
"And," she continued, "I don't need any lessons from anyone, especially the President of the United States, about dignity."
"We do not want the chamber of the House of Representatives to be used a backdrop for one of his reality shows," she explained.
Pelosi also emphasized that the speech was "really dangerous to the well-being of the American people, if they believed what [Trump] said."
Before Trump delivered his speech, the speaker extended her hand for a handshake, a gesture which was then apparently rejected as the POTUS took his place at the podium.
However, at Thursday's news conference, Pelosi was adamant that she did not rip up the speech out of spite over the handshake snub.
