10+ Movie Stunts Gone Wrong That Almost Made Actors Quit

It is no secret that movie stunts are pretty darn rad. That is a fact that no one can deny. But we often forget the sheer amount of work that goes into one of those stunts, not to mention the lives that could be at risk when they do them.

1. Isla Fisher

Summit Entertainment

The actress almost died during her underwater tank stunt in Now You See Me.

The worst part is, her acting was so convincing the crew didn't know she was actually drowning!

2. Sylvester Stallone

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer

Just like Apollo Creed before him, Sylvester Stallone got rocked by Ivan Drago (too soon?).

Stallone wanted Dolph Lundgren (Drago) to punch him as hard as he could on the set of Rocky IV. According to some stories, Lundgren almost killed him.

3. Scott McLean

Legendary Entertainment

He was the stuntman for Ed Helms during The Hangover Part II.

At one point, something went wrong during a stunt where he was supposed to stick his head out the window and Scott was slammed headfirst into an oncoming truck.

4. Diane Kruger

Universal Pictures

Inglorious Basterds was a pretty darn intense movie.

From the opening scene (one of the tensest moments every caught on film) to the scene where Landa chokes out Diane Kruger's character Bridget von Hammersmark, the whole thing is off the wall nuts.

But not as nuts as this accident.

Universal Pictures

During the close up for the choking scene, Quentin Tarantino himself stepped in to choke Diane Kruger.

But he went a little too far and the actress almost passed out!

5. Hell's Angels

United Artists

There were many accidents on the 1931 movie Hell's Angels.

One of them was director Howard Hughes, who plunged his own plane into the ground. And while he survived, a mechanic named Phil Jones died during a different accident

6. David Holmes

Warner Bros.

Mr. Holmes was the stuntman for Daniel Radcliffe during the Hary Potter series.

During one stunt gone wrong, he was jerked back on a wire, slammed into the wall and broke his neck.

7. Terry Leonard

Lucasfilms

You may not have heard of Terry Leonard, but you've seen him. He was Indiana Jones in Lost Ark... at least when the stunts were on screen.

Anyways, this is a story he has from Romancing The Stone.

So remember the scene in that movie where the car goes over a waterfall and Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner have to jump out? That was Leonard.

20th Century Studios

Now it was important that he clear the waterfall, lest he fall into the whirlpool below. Almost needless to say, some of his safety gear messed up and he was sent into the depths of the whirlpool below.

Oh! Uh, he survived.

8. Halle Berry

Eon Productions

On the set of Die Another Day, Halle Berry was choking on a piece of fruit during a scene when Pierce Brosnan (Bond) himself stepped in and saved her life.

9. Uma Thurman

20th Century Fox

You hear about the time on the set of Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief where Uma Thurman was about to get crushed by a runaway van until on man stepped up to save her.

That man? Pierce Brosnan.

10. Gerard Butler

Walden Media

In the movie Chasing Mavericks, Butler played a professional surfer. During one scene, a 20-foot wave pulled him under the water, almost drowning the actor.

Clearly, he was not a pro surfer.

11. Jennifer Lawrence

Lionsgate

It was on Hunger Games, arguably one of the biggest movies of her career, when Jennifer Lawrence almost lost her life.

Oh yes, the star was right smack dab in the middle of taking down The Capitol...

When a smoke machine malfunctioned.

Lionsgate

J-Law, one of America's greatest treasures, was almost suffocated that day.

Obviously, she lived, but we could have been living in a world without Jennifer Lawrence. Can you even imagine that, reader?
