Nurses Shave Their Heads While Treating Coronavirus Patients To Prevent Infection

As the Coronavirus continues to spread, fear and uncertainty spread with it. Though media sensationalism and fear-mongering take the spotlight whenever epidemics such as this arise, there are still dedicated individuals of all kinds who are much more concerned with treating sick patients than spreading panic.

Healthcare workers are taking special precautions while treating those who have been infected with the Coronavirus.

People's Daily, China reports that a number of Chinese nurses have opted to shave off their hair before travelling from various parts of the country to Wuhan to help fight the epidemic.

The reason? Long hair is a health risk, for them and their patients.

China's Xinhua News reports that head-shaving helps to "limit any ways that the virus can escape controlled environments." Long hair also complicates how quickly the nurses can put on and take off hazmat suits, so a saved head makes the entire process much faster.

Over 20 nurses and doctors have volunteered to have their hair shaved.

Business Insider reports that other extreme measures taken by health professionals in the area include wearing adult diapers under their hazmat suits so that they can care for their patients for longer periods of time.

Many nurses and doctors also have bleached and scarred skin from use of disinfectant and face masks.

It is incredible to see the selflessness and sacrifice that these health professionals exhibit to take care of those less fortunate than them.
