Fans Drag John Legend And Chrissy Teigen For Using Private Jet On Valentine's Day

Social media has a serious bone to pick with John Legend and Chrissy Teigen for taking a private jet to dinner on Valentine's Day last week.

Considering the fact that they tend to be big activists for the fight against climate change, you can imagine the irony here.

John Legend and his wife, Chrissy Teigen, have both vocalized their advocacy for the environment in the past.

So, it came as a surprise to fans to find out that the pair took a private jet to dinner on Valentine's Day.

They flew to the French Laundry restaurant in Yountville, California, which is located about 500 miles from their home.

While the couple could have easily kept quiet about it to avoid backlash from their fans, they instead, documented their date on Instagram.

"My valentine. I love this woman," John wrote.

Unfortunately, the main takeaway from fans was that for somebody who supposedly cares so much about climate change, he was quick to contribute to it in a blatant way.

Fans were quick to point out the hypocrisy.

This person actually quoted one of John's older tweets about climate change to really drive the point home.

Another fan replied to John's aforementioned tweet directly, asking him if the private jet they took was "electric".

They also pointed ou that Chrissy and John could have easily chosen a restaurant closer to home that doesn't require a plane to get to.

This person called John and Chrissy frauds for not practicing what they preach.

They even mentioned that Chrissy taking a video of it for social media was probably not the brightest idea.

For those of you that didn't already know, private jets are considered to be especially bad for the environment.

While the amount of fuel burnt is a lot less than a commercial jet, it is typically boarded by far less passengers and therefore, far less efficient.

This increases individual carbon footprints, which is no bueno for mother Earth.

Some people wrote that, evidently, climate change is not a true concern of those who are rich enough to travel by private jet.

Leaving the rest of us commoners to work doubly hard in order to make a difference.

This person asked if anybody could kindly explain to John and Chrissy exactly how a carbon footprint works.

Taking a private jet just to have dinner is one way to rapidly increase the size of your carbon footprint, that's for sure!

Another person chimed in about how unfair it is tthat Chrissy and John are often lecturing their fans to make eco-conscious decisions, but then they turn around and do this.

It's certainly not the best way to set an example...

This fan sarcastically asked John and Chrissy if their jet ran on eco fuel, or if they love being so out of touch.

While I'm sure John was just trying to use the resources available to him to give his wife a great Valentine's Day, he must have forgotten about the realities of climate change.

I really hope their round trip on a private jet was worth all of this backlash, because this is stressful af.

People are not letting this one go!

Another person sounded off, "you talk the talk but don't walk the walk", in response to Chrissy's video.

Let's just hope that after reading all of these tweets, Chrissy and John will reconsider flying via private jet again anytime soon.

This person suggested that, like us "normal folk" they did not have to eat at a restaurant that was 500 miles away from where they live.

Surely, there have to be decent restaurants closer by — assuming that they live in a fairly upscale neighborhood.

What do you think of John Legend taking his wife, Chrissy Teigen, to dinner 500 miles away from their home, on a private jet for Valentine's Day?
