Drew Barrymore Writes Touching Post About Her Body Transformation For 'Santa Clarita Diet'

Drew Barrymore is opening up her weight loss.

In a new Instagram post, the actress revealed the fitness regime she followed to look like the hottest zombie around on Santa Clarita Diet.

In 2019, it was revealed that "Santa Clarita Diet" was cancelled.

This meant no fourth season on Netflix for the dark comedy, which starred Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant.

While the show had the word "diet" in the title, it had nothing to do with losing weight.

Instead, it followed the story of married realtors, Sheila (Barrymore) and Joel (Olyphant) Hammond, along with their teenage daughter, Abby (Liv Hewson), whose lives are forever changed one day.

Recently, Drew Barrymore some behind-the-scenes secrets from her time on the show.

This included the fitness regime she did to lose weight for the role.

This past Tuesday, the actress made a post on Instagram that detailed her wellness transformation.

She did so to thank her fitness trainer, Marnie Alton, and to celebrate Wellness Week on social media.

"This woman is my long time teacher and dear important friend. She has helped me. Healed me," she began in her caption.

"Encouraged me to keep going when I felt like being strong was an insurmountable task. We have known each other for about 15 years and when I told her I wanted to transform my body for #SANTACLARITADIET she helped me."

Every spring, like clockwork, Barrymore would turn to her fitness trainer pal to look camera-ready.

"Marnie was the one who got me there. I lost 20 pounds and trained like a mother. She also is the most amazing person. She is poetry in a human being. The best heart. Her priorities are in the right place."

In her post, Drew also shared several pictures of her working out with Alton.

"She is humorous and so so so knowledgeable about our bodies. I love her. Inside and out. Her classes are always booked up and we all love to run to her for her spirit and leadership for all things healthy," she continued to gush about the trainer.

Getting fit for the role came with several mental benefits as well.

"We hope the people in the wellness world are actually healthy in their hearts and minds. It’s not all about being terminators! It’s about how to find yourself. How to be your best self," she wrote.

"But we need guidance and we hope our teachers are smart and wise and sane!"

She continued: "Marnie is one of the greats. Period. And if your looking for a life change or to find your consistent tribe, she is where I found mine."

When the Charlie's Angel actress appeared on The Late Late Show With James Corden in 2018, she revealed the driving motivation behind her weight loss.

“When I first started the show, I was 145 lbs. and my life was kind of falling apart,” she said.

At the time, she was going through a divorce with ex-husband, Will Kopelman, which whom she has two kids.

She continued:

“And I said, ‘Victor [Fresco, the show’s executive producer], can I lose 20 lbs. over the course of the show, and change my eyebrows and the height of my shoes and the body language and attitude and go from someone who’s kind of naïve and unhappy to someone who’s empowered and alive?’ And he said yes, and so I got to make that transformation.”

Doing so helped her look and feel "fantastic."

“It’s funny, it’s called Santa Clarita Diet but it is more than that for me with her,” she later told The Today Show about her character, Sheila.

“It is doing her hair and putting on nails and accessorizing."

While Santa Clarita Diet is sadly canceled, the actress still has lots coming up for 2020!

The romantic comedy, The Stand-In, made through her own production company, Flower Films, will release sometime this year!
