Subway Commuter Is Asked To Sing 'Shallow' For Video And Absolutely Crushes It

Even if you've never actually gotten around to seeing 2018's A Star is Born, there's no way you've been able to go this long without hearing the song "Shallow" from the film. I mean, for awhile there it was absolutely everywhere.

In recent months, the hype has definitely died down and people have pretty much all but forgotten Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's steamy display at last year's Oscars.

But just when you think "Shallow" is gone for good, it pops right back up into the social sphere again, thanks to a viral video and one woman with a powerful set of pipes.

British content creator Kevin Freshwater recently posted a video on Facebook where he asked strangers to finish the lyrics to various hit songs.

In the video he runs up to random folks on the street, sings a bit of the song himself, and then points the microphone in their direction, encouraging them to sing for him and his camera.

For the most part, people in Freshwater's video were startled, if not a little confused, but still managed to get some lyrics out for him and his viewers.

But it's not until the very end of the video, when the content creator is running through a metro station in London, that things get really interesting.

You could even say that was the moment when a star was born.

I'll show myself out.

Commuter Charlote Awbery was stopped by Freshwater and asked to finish the lyrics to "Shallow."

After he sang the first line, Freshwater held the microphone out to a visibly hesitant Awbery, who sang the next line for him, smiling shyly as she started what can only be described as the performance of a lifetime.

Even Freshwater thought so, because he encouraged her to sing even more: "Wow! You're really good, keep going!"

Gaining a bit more confidence, Awbery went on to sing the track's chorus and positively blew us all away with her incredible vocals.

Using the subway's natural acoustics, she managed to give us a totally unexpected, totally imperfect, and somehow totally impromptu rendition of that song I once hated but now have no problem hearing again and again, if it means hearing Awbery's voice.

Freshwater's Facebook video has been viewed over 13 million times and has over 250,000 reactions online.

The clip of just Awbery's performance has since been shared to Twitter where it's been viewed another 23.1 million times, turning this London commuter into a viral sensation.

Seriously, people just can't get enough of her!

The comments are filled with people expressing their total amazement at Awbery's talent.

"How does one just open their mouth and have that come out," one user commented. "No clearing or the throat or anything, she just did IT! Amazing!!"

Another boldly added, "She did it better than Gaga in Enigma," referencing the star's Las Vegas concert residency.

Others have expressed doubt that this video was impromptu, and believe it was actually staged.

That mostly has to do with the fact that Awbery, as it turns out, is an aspiring professional singer who has an entire Instagram account dedicated to sharing her music with the world. Since she went viral, that account has positively blown up, and she now has nearly 170,000 followers.

Whether her subway performance was planned or not, I think we can all agree on one thing: this woman can definitely sing.
