People Are Turning Old Whiskey Bottles Into Speakeasy Style Lamps

Upcycling is not only great for the environment, but it's also great for customizing your environment to fit your taste.

Take the people who have been turning whiskey bottles into lamps — not only does it involve something they love, but they've turned that love into something totally usable! We have no choice but to stan.

For example: One DIYer went pretty extreme with theirs.

See? Fire. Definitely extreme. YouTuber Unboxingexperience7 tied a rope around their bottle, then set it on fire.

After about 20 seconds of burning, they plunged it into cold water.

That allowed for a pretty clean break.

The rapid heating and cooling made the glass breakable. With a few taps, the bottom fell off.

Some shards were left behind, but that just adds to the homemade flavor of this project.

The rest was pretty easy.

After that, it was just a matter of adding the light fixture. They added a pendant light kit (you can find one on Amazon for cheap af) and a bulb. Just like that, it was done!

The light was complete.

Okay, so. Imagine three of these in varying sizes strung up above a sleek bar top. How frickin' cool would that look?

Those broken shards actually add a lot of texture to the way the light bounces. It's so cool!

If that's too much for you, though...

Instructables | JP'sW

There's tons of easier ways to turn a whiskey bottle into a lamp, no worries.

For instance: you can literally just stick a bunch of fairy or Christmas lights in a bottle. Make sure it's battery powered! Check out the Instructable here.

If you want to make your own wired lamp, Instructables has you covered.

Instructables | Nick Farnell

Nick Farnell posted a step-by-step tutorial on Instuctables covering all the basics for turning your bottle into a lamp.

The most difficult part will definitely be drilling the glass, so make sure to pick up a glass drill bit if you want to give this a try!

Anyone order a chandelier?

"This amazing piece of contemporary art highlights the circular bar at the new dancehall/barbeque joint in Granbury – Rio Brazos Texas Music Hall," photographer Dave Hensley noted on Flickr.

So...how long do you think it took for all those bottles to empty?

How about one that's a little more low-key?

Craft by Two

Craft by Two on Croutique created this incredible, far more understated whiskey bottle chandelier.

There's something about a brick wall, wood, and black accents that just compliments a Jack bottle so nicely.

A sconce is always a good idea.

eBay

This sconce has everything going for it. It's industrial, it looks good, and most importantly? It's a plug-in wall sconce, so there's no wiring required. Your drywall says thank you!

Get it on eBay.

Add some color.

Luulla

"I want a whiskey bottle lamp, but I'm more of a color-changing LED light person," you say, browsing this article.

"I got you, boo," I say, showing you this lamp from Bodacious Bottles.

This lamp said, "no tea, no literal shade."

Etsy | CoolVintageLoft

No need for a lamp shade when you have a stunning Edison bulb handy, right?

CoolVintageLoft on Etsy makes these Jack lamps with some intense decorating on the bottom. Each one is handmade, and thus a little different from the others!

Add some art to it.

Etsy | Lotsaluvcreations

This lamp was not only upcycled, it was customized! Lotsaluvcreations used alcohol ink to create a water marble effect on the inside of the bottle. And for the last touch? A pure black lily, of course.

Why not go one step further and add a cool pulley accent?
