Hilary Duff Throws Shade At Disney For Postponing 'Lizzie McGuire' Revival

Among all of the people who are patiently waiting to see the Lizzie McGuire reboot, ironically, Hilary Duff seems to be the most anxious.

And to prove how fed up she is of it being postponed, she threw some subtle shade on social media.

If you're anything like me, you subscribed to Disney+ with the sole purpose of being one of the first people to hit play once the "Lizzie McGuire" reboot gets added.

Unfortunately, the wait has been a tad longer than expected...

It seems that a wrench has been thrown into the plans, causing the fate of the series to be in question.

It was revealed last month that production had been put on hold after Terri Minsky, the series' showrunner, split.

Reports from both Deadline and Variety, however, have confirmed that the show is still being reworked.

But the drama behind the scenes has caused a major setback.

“We paused production on Lizzie McGuire a few weeks ago to allow time for some creative re-development,” A spokesperson from Disney explained in a statement.

The statement continued, reigniting hope that the show will eventually air.

“Our goal is to resume production and to tell an authentic story that connects to the millions who are emotionally invested in the character".

"And a new generation of viewers too," they added.

Following that statement, Hilary Duff took to Instagram, sparking speculation that the fate of the show is uncertain.

She shared a headline about another Disney+ series called, Love, Victor that is being removed from the platform for not being "family-friendly" enough.

She circled the headline and wrote, "sounds familiar.."

Interestingly, according to Variety, there was also supposed to be a "more adult" vision for the Lizzie McGuire revival.

It looks as though "more adult" themed shows are being moved from Disney+ to Hulu.

Recent comments by Terri Minsky have suggested that that could be a positive option for Lizzie McGuire.

“I am so proud of the two episodes we did,” Terri told Variety.

“Hilary has a grasp of Lizzie McGuire at 30 that needs to be seen. It’s a wonderful thing to watch."

"I would love the show to exist," she added.

"But ideally, I would love it if it could be given that treatment of going to Hulu and doing the show that we were doing."

"That’s the part where I am completely in the dark."

"It’s important to me that this show was important to people," she went on.

"I felt like I wanted to do a show that was worthy of that kind of devotion.”

Currently, Disney is meeting with potential replacements.

But rumor has it, sources close to the production are not entirely sure if the show will be able to carry out both Hilary and Disney's preferences.

So, just to recap: For the time being, nobody knows when, where, or how the "Lizzie McGuire" revival is going to be released.

That's all very reassuring, I know.

But, on the bright side, IF the show is released on Hulu, it may have a more mature edge than the original "Lizzie McGuire", which will probably resonate a lot more with the generation who grew up watching it, and are now adults themselves.
