Wine is wonderful, isn't it? I mean, I can spend days luxuriating in nature with a robust red in hand, just reveling at the marvels of fermentation. In fact, sometimes I think I could bathe in wine.
But seeing as I'm not that wasteful, maybe I'll just book at stay at this working vineyard in Portugal where you can sleep in a giant wine barrel.
The Quinta da Pachecha vineyard in the Douro region of Portugal has created giant luxury wine barrels that serve as guest suites. They're located on the sprawling centuries-old wine estate, overlooking the vineyard and the Douro river valley.
The wine barrel suites are equipped with a circular double bed, private terrace, ensuite bathroom with walk-in shower, air conditioning, and WiFi.
Designed by the estate's owners, Paulo Pereira and Maria do Céu Gonçalves, the barrels are exact replicas of the ones used to actually age the wine. They said they created them to add to the resort's already romantic and idyllic vibe.
Although it's located in a region best known for its Port wines, Quinta da Pacheca offers a variety of red, white, and rosé vintages, as well as local gastronomic delicacies.
