As cancer numbers continue to rise across the globe, the fight against this horrific illness rages on.

And, with 367, 167 new cases of cancer being reported in Great Britain alone by Cancer Research from 2015-17, and with "1,806,590 new cancer cases and 606,520 cancer deaths are projected to occur in the United States" in 2020, most of us sadly know someone who is suffering from this terrible affliction.

However, hope is far from lost in these seemingly bleak times.

The most recent success story to sweep the internet came from one hospital in the UK.

Worcestershire Royal Hospital recently shared on their website the wonderful story of one mother and son duo who overcame all of the odds and beat cancer together after a long battle with the illness.

The inspiring pair in question are Vici and George.

Four years ago, Vici was diagnosed with stage four Bowel Cancer, and only five months after her own terrifying diagnosis, her son George was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.

Vici explained how much of a shock George's diagnosis came so close to her own.

Vici said that when she had first been first diagnosed that her first thought had been of her children:

"When I was diagnosed it was just shock and my first thought was about the boys.

"I just assumed the outcome would be bad, considering the seriousness of the diagnosis. When George was diagnosed, it's hard to put into words really, the rug was pulled from underneath us again but this time it was our four-year-old boy.

"There's no way to really rationalize it in your mind. I guess on one hand we were just shell shocked again but on the other hand, we were so used to talking about and living through cancer that it almost felt like this is what we did," Vici told LadBible.

Vici said that "we had to hope for two miracles, for us both to get better".

8-year-old George had three-and-a-half years of treatment at Worcestershire Royal. Vici explained that they remained as positive as possible throughout the treatment:

"Quite early on, George's prognosis was very good so even though it was the most difficult period of time to get through, we always had a lot of hope and reassurance that he would recover."

Eventually, the pair were diagnosed cancer-free!

Vici was the first to receive the wonderful news, and several months later young George also received an amazing prognosis. Vici had nothing but praise for the staff at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital:

"We've both received the best care in Worcestershire and my Clinical Nurse Specialist, Bernice continues to support me now. We’re so grateful for their care and they really have become like a second family to us all," Vici explained on the hospital's website.

The family are now excited to be able to live the rest of their lives to the fullest!

Vici went on to say to on the hospital's website, that she is still adapting to the sense of freedom, and not having to constantly worry about the future:

"It feels quite surreal, when you are given that first diagnosis and know you're looking at three years of treatment you never think the day is going to come. You get into the routine of hospital appointments and planning your lives around that then all of a sudden, we can now make plans, book a holiday and arrange things without the worry."

This story will hopefully show others that there is always hope.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist who cared for Vici, one Bernice Kent, said, "We're thrilled that both Vici and George have now completed their treatment. They have both been through so much, but it's lovely to see such a positive ending to such an awful time."

Hopefully, Vici and George's story will give you a boost today and will show that hope can be found even in the bleakest times.
