Disneyland Will Be Donating All Excess Food During Temporary Coronavirus Closure

On March 14, California's Disneyland resort officially closed its gates to undergo a temporary shutdown amid the coronavirus pandemic.

But rather than allowing all the uneaten food inside the park to go to waste, Disney has announced it will be donated to a local food bank, Good Morning America reported.

The announcement was made on Twitter one day before the park officially closed.

"During the temporary closure of @Disneyland, the resort will donate excess food to Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County," the tweet reads.

In a follow-up blog post, Disney Parks wrote, "while closely following food safety guidelines, excess inventory of dairy, fruit, vegetables, packaged goods and banquet meals is being donated Second Harvest Food Bank, whose mission is to end hunger in Orange County."

The park closure is expected to last until the end of the month.

Disney Parks announced via Twitter that the company decided to shut down the park after reviewing governor of California's executive order

"We will monitor the ongoing situation and follow the advice and guidelines of federal and state officials and health agencies," they wrote. "Disney will continue to pay cast members [park employees] during this time."

Ina separate tweet, Disney Parks announced Florida's Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Paris Resort, and Disney Cruise Line are all suspending operation.

Although this isn't the first time Disney has closed down one of its parks, it is the longest stretch of time for a park closure.

The previous six shutdowns all lasted between one and three days, and happened in response to such events as the September 11 attacks and 2017's Hurricane Irma.
