Shannen Doherty Gives Important Social-Distancing Message: 'My Battle Is Hard Enough'

Shannen Doherty is making an emotional plea.

As she battles stage four breast cancer, she took to Instagram on Saturday to urge her fans to stay home to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Earlier this year, Shannen Doherty revealed that she was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer.

This comes four years after the 90210 star's initial cancer diagnosis.

During that time, she did everything she could to battle it.

After hormone therapy failed and the cancer spread to her lympth nodes, she had a single mastectomy.

This was followed by chemotherapy, radiation, and then finally intense reconstructive surgery.

She was considered in remission for years until last year.

"My cancer came back," Doherty said in an interview with 'Good Morning America.'

"I don't think I've processed it. It's a bitter pill to swallow in a lot of ways."

She kept the news quiet at first, since it was around the time that her 'Beverly Hills 90210' co-star, Luke Perry, had died.

“It’s so weird for me to be diagnosed and then somebody who was, you know, seemingly healthy to go first,” said Doherty.

“It was really, like, shocking.”

“One of the reasons, along with Luke, that I did 90210 and didn’t really tell anybody [was] because I thought, people can look at that [as] people with stage 4 can work too,” she said in an interview with 'ABC News.'

“Our life doesn’t end the minute we get that diagnosis. [We still have some living to do.”](https://www.instagram.com/p/B067d6YBSNY/

But that's not to say that she doesn't question her diagnosis.

“I definitely have days where I say, ‘Why me?’ ” she said.

“And then I go, well, ‘Why not me? Who else? Who else besides me deserves this?’ None of us do.”

Now with the coronavirus pandemic going on, the actress finds herself in a high-risk category.

The virus, which causes COVID-19, has now killed over 19,000 people worldwide.

It's even put countries such as Italy and China under lockdown for weeks.

Because of this, Doherty took to Instagram on Saturday to plead with fans to stay home and help prevent the spread of the virus.

"I am staying home (and ranting) for us ALL. For my fellow cancer warriors who fight hard everyday for more time," she began her caption.

"For my mom. For my family. For my husband. For my mother in law and father in law. For my friends. For my friends kids. For every single one of you."

"For myself with stage 4 cancer, my battle is hard enough."

She went on to share how one of her closest friends of 28 years "has decided to end her battle with metastatic cancer." That friend is currently in the hospital alone and for the last time.

She concluded her plea by mentioning those who are on the frontlines of the virus right now:

"For every doctor and hospital worker. For every person at a grocery store doing their best to help. For every person forced to be on the front lines. I’m doing this for us. Please join me. #stayhome."

Shannen's message hit home for a lot of her fans, as they echoed her plea in the comments.

Another fan could relate to the star's struggle.

"My mom is a cancer survivor and I'm I'm staying in for her!! She lives with me & my husband!! Please take care of yourself."

Those classified as "essential" workers left their concerns about still having to work during this scary time.

A retail worker also asked people to stay home.

"#stayhome I have to work retail because apparently Office Depot/office max is essential so every day I risk catching or becoming a carrier during this madness. not allowed to wear protection, too short staffed to call out sick," they wrote.

Shannen's post makes her one of the latest celebs to urge fans to stay home to help flatten the curve.

So far, there's been posts by Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, and more.

On Monday, Ryan Reynolds used his platform to urge his followers to stay home.

He also managed to hilariously shade celebs in the process, because, Ryan Reynolds.

And we can't forget about Arnold Schwarzenegger who has made *so* many PSAs about going into isolation.

Celebs aren't just doing this for themselves.

As Shannen said, they're doing it for doctors and nurses, for grocery store workers, for us. So, let's all do our part!
