Tito's Vodka Pledges To Make 24 Tons Of Hand Sanitizer With More Coming Later

While I certainly don't have to tell you about the concern that the COVID-19 pandemic has sparked worldwide, your experiences for how people have responded to it will likely vary depending on where you are.

That said, people throughout the United States have commonly had to deal with the aftermath of other people's panic buying. And while that panic may hit differently in different regions, the most common targets seem to be toilet paper and hand sanitizer.

But while many things can be used as toilet paper in a pinch (though they're not all flushable), it's a lot harder to improvise an effective hand sanitizer.

Fortunately, manufacturers of similar products seem as aware of that fact as anyone and we can add another company to the list of those willing to help.

While it makes sense for demand for hand sanitizer to escalate during a pandemic, it's also clear that some of it has an ulterior motive behind it.

As Today reported, one pair of brothers in Tennessee have gained particular infamy for stockpiling 17,700 bottles of the product, which they then donated after a price gouging investigation was launched into their activities.

Some of those left in the wake of this stockpiling have resorted to some desperate measures to try and protect themselves from the virus.

In some cases, this has involved the creation of home remedies made from alcoholic beverages.

Unfortunately, none of these drinks contain sufficient levels of alcohol to work as hand sanitizer.

One of the interested parties who became aware of this trend were the makers of Tito's Vodka.

As the company tweeted out, they advise consumers that their vodka will not work as a hand sanitizer.

However, they had some good news to go with this unfortunate reality.

As they noted, Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau authorized permitted distilleries to produce ethanol-based hand sanitizers.

For Tito's, this meant that they could begin efforts to produce a hand sanitizer of their own to meet the demand.

As they wrote, "Currently, we are testing our formula, procuring necessary components of supplies and packaging, and preparing for production as we wait for the additional required ingredients to be delivered to the distillery."

Once that happens, however, they intend to produce 24 tons of hand sanitizer over the next several weeks.

They will also plan to make more as needed from that point on. Not only that, but they announced their intention to give it away for free to "our community and those most in need."
