The hype for the movie 'Dune' is *so* real right now.

The upcoming sci-fi thriller, directed by Denis Villeneuve (Arrival) and (Blade Runner 2049), is based on the 1965 novel by author Frank Herbert.

The film’s synopsis, according to 'Production Weekly,' reads:

Warner Bros | Vanity Fair

"The trouble begins when stewardship of Arrakis is transferred by the Emperor from the Harkonnen Noble House to House Atreides. The Harkonnens don’t want to give up their privilege, though, and through sabotage and treachery they cast young Duke Paul Atreides out into the planet’s harsh environment to die."

"There he falls in with the Fremen, a tribe of desert dwellers who become the basis of the army with which he will reclaim what’s rightfully his. Paul Atreides, though, is far more than just a usurped duke."

It continues:

"He might be the end product of a very long-term genetic experiment designed to breed a super human; he might be a messiah. His struggle is at the center of a nexus of powerful people and events, and the repercussions will be felt throughout the Imperium.”

In other words, it's got total 'Star Wars' and 'Game of Thrones' vibes.

With the movie set to hit theatres (or at home on demand) in December, fans have been getting a first look at some of the characters, via Vanity Fair.

First up is Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides.

It's a far cry from his role as Laurie in Little Women last year.

Next to him in this photo is Rebecca Ferguson, who plays Lady Jessica.

The actress even spoke to 'Vanity Fair' about her character: “She’s a mother, she’s a concubine, she’s a soldier," she began.

“Denis was very respectful of Frank’s work in the book, [but] the quality of the arcs for much of the women have been brought up to a new level. There were some shifts he did, and they are beautifully portrayed now.”

Another strong female character in the film is Chani, played by Zendaya.

This is one that fans are really excited for.

She plays a "mystery woman named Chani, who haunts Paul in his dreams as a vision with glowing blue eyes."

In addition to Chalamet, there are a lot of familiar male faces in the film.

Here's Javier Bardem (No Country For Old Men) with director Denis Villeneuve.

He plays Stilgar in the film.

Marvel fans will recognize Josh Grolin aka Thanos.

He plays Gurney Halleck, the seasoned war master who was famously played by Patrick Stewart in the 1984 film adaptation of the book.

And now, we bring you a first look at Jason Momoa in the film.

He plays Duncan Idaho, but this picture is giving some serious Kill Bill vibez.

So far, fans are loving his new look — sans beard and all!

"omg jason momoa is in dune too :0 this movie is gonna be amazing," tweeted another.

I mean, if anyone can pull off a new look, it's definitely Jason Momoa.

The hunky Aquaman star first debuted a rather unique one at this year's Superbowl.

While starring in a Rocket Mortgage commercial, it centered around him at home, aka the "one place he can let his guard down."

For him, this hilariously meant taking off his "fake" muscles.

In addition to his smaller frame, he was severely balding on the top.

Gorgeous.

In another clip, he failed at lifting weights with his wife, Lisa Bonet.

The video was classic Momoa. Good looks, amazing humor.

With Momoa looking more like his hunky self in 'Dune,' we can't wait to see him tear up the screen!

Dune is set to release on December 18th.

But for now, you can check out the director and some of the casts' interview with Vanity Fair!
