David Beckham Makes Surprise Visit To 70-Year-Old Superfan With Cancer

Times are a little bit tough right now, which means it's so important to not just read bad news or scary numbers. We should also be focusing our attention on the good news and happy stories, and there are lots of those.

David Beckham just made another one.

David Roberts, a 70-year-old cancer patient, was nominated through the charity Age Concern to receive a surprise phone call from "a mystery celebrity."

Roberts said that he was told the celebrity would phone him at 10:15 AM, but instead of a phone call, there was a knock at his door.

Roberts said he was "amazed' when he opened it to find David Beckham standing there.

Of course, he was standing the appropriate six feet away, so there's no need to worry there. Roberts said, "David was at my door right on time. All I could think to say was hello, how are you?"

"He is a lovely guy," Roberts emphasized.

"We chatted about what will happen to this season’s football," Roberts added, which seems only natural. Roberts added that he lives with his wife and son, and stated, "I think the visit was as much for them as me."

Roberts was glad his family got to enjoy the experience as well.

"Because they have cared for me since I had a cancer operation in December, which I have been battling, with the help and support of family and friends (who include neighbours and work colleagues) for three years," he said.

What an amazing story!
