Adorable Police Puppy Can't Stay Awake During His Swearing-In Ceremony

In case you're in need of some adorable doggy content today, the newest member of the Bristol Police Department in Rhode Island recently had a little trouble keeping his eyes open during his swearing-in ceremony.

According to The Dodo, Brody, a 12-week-old puppy, ended up taking a nap while he was being officially welcomed onto the force as a K-9 comfort dog.

Well, at least he wasn't sleeping on the job, right?

His handler, Officer Keith Medeiros, said this really isn't anything new for the adorable pup who's been known to take a nap or two.

“He plays really hard and he sleeps really hard,” Medeiros, Brody’s explained. “When he’s not playing, he’s sleeping, which is kind of tough because he sleeps a lot.”

Brody was first introduced to the force back in March when the department decided to add a K-9 comfort dog to their team.

Although it seemed the coronavirus outbreak would hinder Brody's training, Medeiros said it turns out the pup joined the force at the perfect time.

“People are really stressed, especially in law enforcement,” he said “Just by walking in the police department with Brody, people immediately smile, they immediately get into a better place. They want to pet him, want to hug him and it’s just a really good thing.”

On April 6, Brody was woken up nice and early to attend his own very special swearing-in ceremony.

But perhaps he was woken up just a bit too early.

“We put him down on the desk and he was just so comfortable that he lay down and fell asleep,” Medeiros said.

Thankfully, his handler was more than happy to step in and take the oath for him.

Although he wasn't exactly awake for the whole thing, Brody was still officially named a K-9 comfort dog.
